This morning it sure looked like Carb day would be a wash out... but the storms stayed to the south and the north and the full Carb day went off without a hitch. I only wish I hadn't been at work all day. 2 hours of practice, pit-stop competition and a Live concert would have been a great way to spend today. From the pictures from the Speedway, it looked like a large crowd enjoyed themselves today.
On a separate note, the Indy Star finally did it... today they pissed me off to the point I am cancelling my subscription. Back in 1945 when Tony Hulman purchased the Speedway, he refused to divulge the number of seats at the Speedway. He kept that secret until he passed in 1977. His son Tony George has continued the tradition with the Speedway refusing to release the exact number of seats. Well the Indy Star decided to take the challenge and they sent Curt Cavin around the Speedway to count all the seats. While he didn't count each one, it looks like he did a good job of determining the number of seats per section and the number of rows so that they could calculate a close number. Today they published that number. But instead of simply reporting the number, they flaunted that they did it to spite Tony George and prove that the 400,000 and 500,000 estimates were exaggerations. What they didn't say, is that the Star over the years were the ones making these estimates. The Speedway never released a number, never confirmed or denied any estimate.
For the Star, doing research, like counting the seats, and then doing a fair and objective job of reporting takes a back seat to figuring out a way to put a negative spin on whatever number comes up. It's the constant negative spin that I have a problem with.
I'm not even linking to the article because I don't want them getting any more traffic to a malicious article that only tries to hurt the Speedway. For that... I am done with the Star!
