I have a fear of Snakes... and today I just about had a heart attack.
Over the last couple of years I have run across 2 ft long garden snakes on the south side of my house. We have a wooded area that they seem to like and they come up to the house to sun themselves. Fortunately I have run into them when mowing and they don't win the battle with a lawn mower blade.
Which brings me to earlier today. I'm out with my weed eater knocking down the weeds and such in that wooded area south of our house. Obviously I am on the lookout for snakes as I'm working my way though this area. Suddenly out of nowhere, a snake falls from a tree above and lands on my right shoulder. My primal scream could have wakened the dead. Fortunately the weed eater was running and I went after that snake... it may have scared me to death, but in the end it died at the hands of my weed eater.
Once I calmed down, I measured the sucker and sure enough 3 and half feet long and a good 3 inch diameter. For someone terrified of snakes... having that thing drop on your shoulder is going to give me nightmares for years. Not to mention I'm not weeding that area ever again!
I did get a picture and will post it shortly with a link from my blog.
