Or so says Mike Davis in an interview with WISH-TV 8 in Indy. A few of his comments:
"It's going great... all the players are here working out with a new weight program and it's going great." - Great!
"With our schedule the next 4 years... its going to be tough... we must be physically ready." - That pesky schedule... too bad we can't get more cupcakes on it.
"Bracey couldn't do anything for 4 months over the summer last year... that hurt us a lot. He has picked up 10-15 pounds lifting this summer... I am expecting a lot from him... he will be a great leader for our freshman" - And a great leader Bracey will be... "Hey guys, get me the ball, I am shooting it 30 times a game. I watched Kobe and it really worked for him this year." Yeah... that's going to be great.
"Tough schedule again this year though... I am not 100% disappointed... we are about 75% were we need to be." - Darn that tough schedule again... it's too bad that Davis keeps scheduling a tough road... guess it makes .500 seem a little better too him. The percentages... I have no idea what he was trying to say... had to rewind the tape to make sure I got it... yes he did say "I am not 100% disappointed"
"We've been watching film all summer and I've been watching film with Rupp. Our system is great, it's just us executing and paying attention to detail." - Hope those NBA tapes help... it is a great system... or so we keep being told. I wouldn't know cause I don't know anything about basketball.
"In a year or 2 we will be where I thought we would be recruiting wise. We missed a big guy in the class with Patrick and that set us back." - Interesting... I thought Bracey and Marshall were the best guard combo in the country coming out of HS? I thought this year's class was the best in the country. Why does Davis need another year or 2?
"Rothbart tried out with a bunch of NBA teams and it was really good for him. He improved a lot during those tryouts" - HUH? I didn't realize the NBA scouts worked with the players and helped them with their games.
"D.J White will be great... he gives us 6 bigs to go with 8-9 guards" - Interesting that he didn't mention anyone else out of the #1 recruiting class in the country. What about Ratcliff, Vaden, Hardy? Did Davis forget about them since they are just Indiana kids... not the high profile national recruits?
Oh well, I can sleep well tonight... things are great in Bloomington... yeah right.
