Finally I am back online... what knocked me offline?
Well about 5pm on Saturday a nice storm comes through and starts dumping a tremendous amount of rain at once. I go out on my front porch and I'm watching my downspouts not keeping up with all the water when all of a sudden... all the hair on my body stood on end and I saw a brilliant flash of light all around me. The boom was tremendous and the ground shook. Needless to say I freaked out... running back in the house while all the smoke detectors in my house were going off. After a minute of figuring out that I was still alive and had all my body parts attached, I proceeded to run all over the house looking for fire and trying to smell smoke.
Side note... my neighbor's house across the street was struck by lightning last year starting a fire in their basement... I am a bit paranoid about lightning strikes.
So 5 minutes later and no fires, I noticed a loud buzz coming from my big TV in the basement. Sure enough... no power... but a loud buzz coming from the speakers. A further check of our electronics led to a fried cordless phone, a burnt out cable modem and a toasted 20" TV to go along with my dead 53" Sony.
Darn you Mother Nature!
I didn't realize how dependent I was on the Internet until I didn't have it on Sunday. But a new modem today and I am back online.

Geeze!! I'm glad you're both OK (even though your electronics are toast). We've been sitting on the porch watching all the rain lately, too - luckily the same didn't happen to us...!!!
