IU beats Minny!

<>Wow! What a beautiful day for Homecoming 2004... 75 and sunny... And a happy homecoming it was.

Wind was blowing like an SOB. Out of the South to start the game. IU was going into the wind in Q1. Offense couldn't do anything. So Minny started with great field position. The Defense shut Minny down first series only to have an offsides when they stopped them on 4th. Of course that lead to a Minny TD. A quick 3 and out for IU, then IU decided not to cover the TE and 4 consecutive plays to #89 led to another TD before the end of Q1. After IU went 3 and out, and kicked into the wind to close the 1st quarter giving Minny the ball near midfield. IU picked off the first pass of the 2nd Quarter that hung in the Wind and returned it for a TD. That got the crowd back in it until IU had a bad snap on the XP. Minny went 3 and out and IU took advantage of great field position and poor coverage to score again on a pass to Roby in the corner. Went for 2 and lost 5 yds on a running play. Too early for going for two but oh well.

IU got the ball back with 2 minutes left and 4 passes later were in the end zone with a TD to the TE. They went for 2. Bad call in my mind, but they did get and lead at the half. 20-14.

With the wind advantage in the 3rd Quarter, the IU Defense shut down Minny on 3 plays and got the ball at their 40. IU moved the ball right down the field but stalled at the 13 and settled for a field goal to take a 23-14 lead. The IU defense stuffed Minny 3 and out again. But this time, IU's offense couldn't do a thing and had to punt. Then IU forgot to cover the TE and 60 yds later Minny had 1st and goal at the 3. After scoring on the next play, it was 23-21. The IU offense stalled again, but this time the Def stopped Minny again to end the 3rd quarter. Just as IU was switching ends to head into the wind, the winds calmed. What a break.

IU took the first possession of the 4th quarter and drove down the field capping the play with a 30 yd scamper from BJE to take a 30-21 lead. Then the IU defense took over. 4 consecutive 3 and outs ended the 4th quarter and the game.

IU 30 - Minnesota 21
