So after sleeping on it and reflecting on what I saw last night, I have 2 main comments.
1) Everyone that participated in the Melee is to blame. Those that didn't should be commended... Pollard and Croshere I commend you!
2) Security, or should I say lack of security was horrendous and the league and the Pistons need to take a hard look at their performance there.
That being said, the national media's perspective is just about as bad as the lack of security last night. Every clip I saw on CNN, FoxSports Net and articles written in the major papers all blame the Pacers for starting everything with the Pistons' fans. The majority of them don't even mention Ben Wallace's involvement. He is the reason it all started.
Tonight's game will leave the Pacers with 6 players as Artest, O'Neil and Jackson have been suspended indefinitely. I'll be curious to see the suspensions come down tomorrow. The NBA has to be careful here. I know they want to make an example of the Pacers. But if they end up suspending 3 major parts of the Pacers team for 10 or more games, they will alter the Pacers chances this season substantially. In that case, the Detroit fans won. They were able to take out three key parts of their main competition. What's to stop other team's fans from trying to instigate more fights. Especially if it leads to suspensions for your rival's players. A very slippery slope here for the Commish!
