IU BBall - Purdue

Just got back from Assembly Hall. It's always nice beating Purdue soundly.

The IU gift to Coach Keady was a portrait of him on a large piece of the original Assembly Hall. Kinda Cool... Kinda Creepy! Kudos to Davis for having the entire team and coaching staff shake Coach Keady's hand before the tip. Very Classy!

The first half of the game, Purdue came out determined to stop White inside. They played a combination of Kiefer, Ware and Davis on him. White did a great job of not forcing the ball up like he did against Iowa and instead kicking it out to the open shooter. After a slow start of only 3 pts in 7 minutes, Ratliff did a nice job of knocking down some 3s to get IU's offense going. Purdue's offense consisted of settling for way too many outside shots instead of going inside at White. Teague had his best shooting night of the year in the first half and it was a 4 point game at the half.

IU came out ON FIRE to start the second half. A 20-2 run where Bracey couldn't miss put the game out of reach. I must say that a Bracey Fan put me in my place. When I commented out loud "That is a horrible shot" after Bracey launched an off-balance 3 from 23 feet... that went in... a 50 year old woman turned around and yelled "That was a great shot!" From that point on every time Bracey hit a shot she turned and sneered at me. Wow... that was a first! It was still a HORRIBLE shot!

I must give a shout out to my Crazy Uncle who called me out for being to harsh on Davis. Yes tonight's pummeling was nice. But I'm not quite ready to give Davis a contract extension. Pounding the worst Purdue team in 25 years and beating a very poor Michigan team does not erase 2 .500 win seasons. I need to see where we stand against a good MSU team and an average UW team on the road. But please take note, no negativity in this piece.

I hope you recorded the game on ESPN and get a chance to listen to Mussberger and Lavin. WOW!!! I won't spoil it for you, but it was unbelievable. I'm not sure if Davis or his wife gave Lavin a script to read. Maybe his experience in LA just causes him to say nothing negative about a coach. The play-by-play just sounded remarkably similar to Mike's interview with JMV. "Wait til next year" , "Josh Smith", "unbelievable recruiter", "better bench coach than he gets credit for?"

The Keady love fest was acceptable, especially with the Hoosiers up double digits.

Mr. Kyle

Oooo - can I inject some negativity? I feel so empty talking about IU B-ball without that...

I will give IU props for stepping up against Purdue. But I predict a free fall in the coming weeks, progressing to a giant "thud" in the B-10 tourney. (Hey, if Davis can look ahead, why can't I/) I'll watch this space to see what I win if I'm right.

Just a little ray of sunshine for everybody's day. Enjoy.

Check out how Coach Krzyzewski did during his first few seasons at Duke. People were calling for his head. Then he had a few good recruiting classes...

Things will get better.

Mr. Kyle, thanks to the wonderful world of DVR, I do have the game recorded. After all I have heard, I think I must go back and pull some quotes. The Bench Coach comment I have heard repeated all day long. That I must hear for myself.

Anna, by predicting that THUD, you will be the lucky winner of my BBall tickets next year. I can't watch another year of Davis on the sideline.

Mike,

Coach K did struggle early at Duke. However, he took over a program that was a perennial celler dweller in the ACC. Davis took over an IU team that was loaded with talent. 5 years later, we are worse than we have been in 30 years... for 2 straight seasons. Oh, and Coach K played for and formed the basis of his coaching philosophy from Coach Knight. Mike Davis formed the basis of his offense in the CBA and today tweaks it with plays from the NBA... "ROCKET"

You are comparing a 2000 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac to a Boones Farm Melon Ball. And yes Davis is the Boones Farm Melon Ball.
