So Mike Davis came out of hiding and called into JMV on WNDE on Wednesday.
The man is so insightful.
When asked what it will take to get the IU fans back on his side, I quote "Wins. When we get 20 wins the praise will come my way."
When asked what was the key to his future sucess at IU, he said "Schedule, Personnel and Coaching Staff. You can't be sucessful with the type of schedule we've had here the last 2 years and the youth we have had. Our schedule this past year was that of a Mid-Major. When you are at a big school, you don't need to play the top teams. If you did, everyone would be doing it. Last year we were the only one to play a schedule like that. You can play 2 or 3 tough games in the non-conference, but not any more."
When asked how he gets along with Greenspan, Davis said "We get along great. I meet with him every week. And I helped him understand the keys to our scheduling. And he listened to me. Next year we are going to have a good schedule with lots of games we can win."
When asked about what went wrong last year, Davis said "Youth and Schedule. If you put Dean Smith as head coach and Coach K as his assistant, it would be a big deal if they could have gotten 15 or 16 wins out of that team and that schedule."
When asked if Bracey and Patrick leaving would lower expectations for next year, Davis paused... then said "No. Next year is going to be good. We have the top rebounder in the SEC, a top point guard from Auburn that knows our system, DJ with a year under his belt, Vaden, who played out of position all year, Ben Allen, I mean this guy would be the top big man recruit in the country if he was from the US. It will be a good year and everyone can jump back on the bandwagon."
I was somewhat surprised that he didn't begin lobbying for a contract extension yet. It has to be coming soon. I mean how can you recruit when you only have 3 years left on your contract. But at least IU will have a cupcake schedule for the future. It will be fun watching them beat up on teams from the bottom 150. IU fans are so lucky to have have this guy!

If Dean Smith was coaching w/ Coach K as his assistant IU would have won about 25 games last year. Davis is an idiot. I mean, after all, this is a guy who once said, "I have no idea what's going on most of the time. I mean, I have no idea."
And he still has absolutely NO IDEA!
Great to hear from you DK... hope all is well.
Steve
I heard the interview.
At one point MD said, "We were just one game out of third place in the Big 10."
It's like saying
"Wow, and I was just almost in the top third of my graduating class."
"He finished 12th in the Indy 500"
"My team almost qualified for the NBA playoffs"
Say this about MD, he makes an art form of mediocrity.
