So in today's IDS article, it mentions that IU has to upgrade the roof supports to handle the new scoreboard... at a cost of $800,000.
New Assembly scoreboard to bring video, ads - IDS
Nice... so in reality the cost of the scoreboard is $2.79 million. Guess Davis' $300k bonus really was just a drop in the bucket for IU's athletics budget.
I wonder how low they will hang this scoreboard? The old scoreboard couldn't be seen by those sitting in rows 39-46. I doubt the size of this thing will allow it to be any lower than the old board. I'm thinking a good number of fans won't even be able to see the new board.
Guess this kind of investment means Assembly Hall won't be replaced any time soon.
And for the $2.79 million investment, IU expects to see $250k in revenue next year. So this investment will pay for itself in 11 years??? Are you kidding me? 11 years??? Unfortunately as the IU program tanks even further, that $250k a year will be rather difficult to obtain.
At least the fans will have a more enjoyable experience... per Greenspan...
"The new scoreboard/video board system will be a great addition for our fans, and will allow them to enjoy the experience of attending an IU game more than ever."
Yippee... who cares about wins... IU fans can see ads on the new scoreboard!!! I guess the IU program truly has passed me by. I remember when I went to Assembly Hall to watch the on-court product and the only thing I cared about on the scoreboard was the final score.
Oh well... things like this make it so much easier for me to give up my tickets and NOT donate another dime to IU.
