Indiana Announces 2005-06 Men's Basketball Schedule - iuhoosiers.com
Well Davis did a nice job of setting up a pre-B10 schedule where this team should do very well.
I really like the NCAA's decision to allow the 2 preseason games to be smaller schools as opposed to the "so-called" all star teams. What a great opportunity for St. Josephs and University of Indianapolis to get to play in Assembly Hall.
IU then gets started with Basketball Powerhouses Nicholls State and Florida A&M. 2 Blowout wins. Then a brutal road trip to meet the Leathernecks of Western Illinois. Hey Myles, were they on your PC list? For any other B10 team, this would be a no brainer, but this is the team that had IU beat last year in Bloomington. No matter, IU will be 3 and 0 going into the B10-ACC Challenge.
While IU will have the edge in experience, Duke has Coach K. IU will fall to 3-1. If for some reason IU is able to get a win here, expect Davis to immediately put on a full court press for a contract extension.
Easy wins over Eastern Michigan at AH and at a very poor ISU, will get IU to 5-1.
Then there is the IU-UK game in Indy. For the first time since they started playing this series in Indy, I won't be there. Woo Hoo, an extra $38, plus $10 for parking in my pocket. And I won't have to witness another IU meltdown at the hands of the pussycats. IU 5-2.
A game at Charlotte follows. After last year's loss, I expect some serious motivation and as Charlotte lost their 2 best players from last year, it should be an IU win. IU 6-2.
A game against Butler at Conseco in front of 10,000 will be win #7. At 33 bucks a ticket, they may not have 10,000. A follow up win at Ball State on New Years Eve and IU is 8-2 going into the B10 season.
Home wins over Michigan and Ohio St. has IU at 10-2 and 2-0 in the B10.
A loss on the road at Michigan State and IU is at 10-3 and 2-1.
2 wins at home over Illinois and Purdue and IU will be 12-3 and 4-1 and ranked in the top 15. The media will be gushing over Davis' turnaround and Mike will use the opportunity to pine for a contract extension. He will use the recruiting failures as an example that he needs a contract extension.
A win over Iowa in Iowa City puts IU at 13-3 and 5-1 and is the final blow to Alford's career in Iowa. At the same time IU gives Davis a 5 year extension and Mike will have 8 more years at $1 million per.
A loss at the Barn in Minneapolis followed up with a win at home over Northwestern has IU at 14-4 and 6-2 with a week off to rest and recover from a great 1st half... oh wait... they have UCONN at home during their off week. BRILLIANT!
A loss at home to UCONN hurts as IU goes to 14-5 and 6-2 and a trip to Madison 3 days later yields back to back losses and IU sitting at 14-6 and 6-3.
Iowa comes to Bloomington and Alford's last coaching performance at AH ends badly and IU gets to 15-6 and 7-3.
A win at Penn State and IU is okay again with a 16-6 and 8-3 record.
A bad loss at Illinois gets folks nervous as IU goes to 16-7 and 8-4 and a B10 Championship is looking bleak.
A win at home over PSU keeps IU within striking distance of MSU at 17-7 and 9-4 and sets up a key home game with MSU where Izzo earns his salary and Davis doesn't earn his. IU drops to 17-8 and 9-5 and the B10 championship is out of the question.
Another loss at Purdue and suddenly the Michigan game on the road is vital. And Amaker blows it down the stretch and IU wins at Michigan to finish 18-9 and 10-6 in the regular season.
Davis has a new Mantra at the B10 Tourney. "We are the THIRD seed!" A win and a loss and IU gets a 5 seed in the NCAA tourney with an 19-10 record.
An early exit to a 12 seed has the haters up in arms and the lovers claiming that if it was good enough for Bobby, it should be good enough for Mike. None of this matters as Davis has another 8 years. And IU Basketball is DOOMED!!!

Thanks a lot, Little Mary Sunshine...;)
And they are still leaving. I read in Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that Lucas Steijn is leaving for joco.

I enjoyed your prognastication. However, you have been very kind to Coach Davis. The end of the season will be 17 and 10. No Big Ten Title! You will owe me a beer.
TS
17 and 10 would still lead to a contract extension for Davis. And for that, you will need more than 1 beer...
