What's that Mitch????

Hey Mitch... you forget your comments during your election campaign? What was that about the importance of all Indiana Counties being on DST and Central? You said they had to go together... To ease the confusion of having different counties on different times. Now you say this???

Daniels predicts counties' time wishes will be granted - Indystar.com

Gov. Mitch Daniels said today that his prediction that most counties seeking a switch to the Central Time Zone will get their wish was not based on any discussions with U.S. Department of Transportation officials who will make the decisions.

Of course not... No one at US DOT will talk to Mitch. We found that out right after Mitch convinced the state house to switch to DST promising that he could get the DOT to put all 92 Indiana Counties on Central.

"It's just an educated guess looking at what's happened in the past, and it's a case some counties have made that are contiguous to the Evansville area or the Chicago-land area," Daniels told reporters at the Statehouse.
So your comments earlier were uneducated guesses?
"My guess is that the wishes of the folks there will probably be respected by DOT. I think there are a few places where it's closer and I can't forecast what might happen."
Unlike the way you listened to the wishes of Indiana residents who didn't want to switch to DST or Central?
Nineteen counties have requested that the federal transportation department move them from the Eastern Zone to the Central Zone. The agency bases its considerations for changes primarily on whether they would benefit commerce. It does not have a timetable for making its decisions, but has said it planned to act as quickly as possible.
Great... so instead of 10 counties out of whack with the rest of the state, we will have 19. That's less confusing.

Thanks Mitch!!!

I for one will be looking forward to "eastern style" DST.

I'm looking forward to many pleasant bike rides and dog walks next spring past 8pm.

I think it's ridiculous to get off work in September at a reasonable hour and come home to darkness.

I'm also tired of having to adjust data synchs and processes twice a year because for 6 months are on the same time as a production servers and for another 6 months we are behind. Just when I get used to being a hour behind we go through another adjustment.

I won't try to tag an actual dollar amount to the inconvenience of not having DST but it makes a difference. The way people outside of Indiana view our quirky ways is a perception but perception is reality and reality fuels business decisions.

As Henry Ford once said:

"Businessmen go down with their businesses because they like the old way so well they cannot bring themselves to change. One sees them all about - men who do not know that yesterday is past, and who woke up this morning with last year's ideas."
