IU coach invites high expectations as Hoosiers tabbed 3rd - indystar.com
"Our personnel is better this year, so expectations should be higher. I'd be disappointed if it wasn't higher this year," said Mike DavisThere's talking point #1 this year. Expectations should be directly tied to personnel. That way next year when they lose 5 players, expectations will be low again.
"As I've said before, we won 96 games in my five years. I'll say this -- and it can never be proven or not proven -- but I don't think anyone else could have won 96 games in five years like I've had."What a gem! Where to start on this one???
Thanks for reminding us that you've had 96 wins. How about the 42-42 record in the last 2 and a half?
"it can never be proven or not proven" Sadly this is true. If only I had a time machine and we could go back and see what Coach Knight or anyone else for that matter could have done with the last 5 years. My guess is 96 wins would be WAY TOO LOW! More like 116 wins would have been about right and 5 NCAA Tourney appearances.
"I don't think anyone else could have won 96 games in five years like I've had." I have... not I've had... but that's minor... what kind of thought process leads to a comment like this? Certainly not one that should be a head coach at Indiana. But actually Mike you are correct with this statement. No one else could have won 96 games like you did. Most would win more, with a better style of basketball, with different types of recruits and actually making coaching adjustments at the half. But who cares about that? It's all about the number of wins based on the personnel you have... yeah right!
Please give us some more high quality quotes the rest of this week Mike. I can't wait
