Manchester High School's principal canceled this week's bonfire, cookout, dodgeball and powderpuff football game -- all traditional events leading up to the homecoming football game -- she said to help prevent vandalism.Leave it to the Principal to ruin Homecoming. How does cancelling these events "prevent vandalism?" It seems to me it will just lead to more vandalism from those that are losing out on the events. Kids never think about retaliation... yeah right. If they are at the events, It's a little hard to be committing acts of vandelism. Duh!
Principal Nancy Alspaugh told the school board Tuesday that on Friday night, members of the football team returned from an away game to find their cars "soaped and waxed."No??? Really???? Why that has never happened before... It only happens EVERY year! Hmmm and I wonder who did it? Probably those that wouldn't participate in Homecoming events anyway.
She added that some students' vehicles were vandalized at their homes while parked inside garages. Monday night after a volleyball game, local residents also reported patio furniture and flower pots damaged and broken in the town 40 miles southeast of South Bend.So why weren't the garages locked? No one could get in my garage and vandalize my car. Oh wait, students usually help each other play pranks. And how many is some? One? Two? And damaged patio furniture and flower pots??? Oh no!!!!! That is awful!!!!!! Again, nothing like this has ever happened before. Oh wait, I had someone cover my entire car with Rocks while I was in High School. You know what? I didn't go to the Principle expecting something to be done. I found out who did it and took care of it personally. But we wouldn't want Football players doing that? Instead we would just prefer that those very students be victimized again by losing Homecoming events.
While all the damage could not be linked to students, Alspaugh decided to try to do what she could to eliminate such occurrences.Really? So it could have been Manchester College kids? Or the patio furniture and flower pots could be a total coincidence. And what was it that Mrs. Alspaugh decided to do? Oh I can't wait to hear this...
"I'm not going to provide an excuse for students to be out vandalizing," Alspaugh said. The homecoming parade, football game against Oak Hill and dance were still planned for Friday, but still could be canceled, officials said.
Excuse? What excuse would that be? Going to a bonfire is an excuse to vandalize? Are you kidding me? I would say "trying to disrupt Homecoming activities by a group of students that don't care about football" being rewarded by actually eliminating Homecoming activities as providing a pretty darn good excuse. Just the wrong one.
"We don't want to cancel homecoming," said Superintendent Diana Showalter. "But if this behavior continues, we won't play football Friday night."Oh that's really nice... now the Superintendent is telling those same students that if the behavior continues she will cancel the football game. Hmmm... I wonder what will happen? Sounds like the Superintendent just gave the students a great excuse to cause trouble. Brilliant!
Oh and this "Joke" of a decision that made the Indy Star was sent to me by 9 different people I know laughing at the stupidity of my High School. Thanks Mrs. Alspaugh and Mrs. Showalter. You are doing MHS proud! And just in case you didn't get it... That's sarcasm. I learned that at Manchester High School.

No kidding. It sounds like very normal "month of October" kinds of fun. If soaping windows was all the kids were doing, the decision was silly. And you are right, Steve, that the players are the ones who get punished for the misdeeds of others.
I hate it when that happens.
"I had someone cover my entire car with Rocks while I was in High School. You know what? I didn't go to the Principle expecting something to be done. I found out who did it and took care of it personally."
Please elaborate. I've heard of plenty of pranks but this is a new one. How do you cover a car with rocks? And how did you deal with it personally. Did you make him an offer he couldn't refuse?
Back in 87 our HS parking lot was not yet paved... small gravel. After practice I went to my car and it was covered... hood, roof, trunk with gravel.
The guy that did it thought he had come up with a new prank and of course had to be right there to lay claim to it.
I was pissed all right. Knowing that the gravel had to be removed piece by piece or else it would have scratched the surface something awful.
You are correct... I made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Since he was pretty proud of his car as well, the thought of me destroying the paint on his car caused him to realize that the rocks weren't a very good idea.
It took him an hour to remove the gravel piece by piece. But he did it out of fear of what I would do to his car. Fortunately there wasn't any damage to the paint.
I lived around the corner from the county Sheriff (and his wife, the prison matron), and I still got TPed in high school. I don't even want to tell you about the things that went on in our school parking lot, and my school was located only the next town over from yours, Steve. My brother and I both had wrecks in the parking lot that were NEVER reported to the police.
We probably never reported them becasue my dad ran an unlicensed auto body shop. The shop bordered the Sheriff's yard, and the Sheriff patronized it several times. The neighbor in between us and the Sheriff was a repeat felony offender who CONSTANTLY got away with harassing the entire neighborhood.
I guess my point is, all this concern for law and order out in the sticks is news to me...
I love football!
