Head Coach Mike Davis Butler Quotes - IUHoosiers.com
On the inside game:This is one of my biggest complaints about IU Basketball under Davis... he makes the game harder than it needs to be. Why in the world does he always try to match down to the other team? Instead of focusing on a style of play that his team can master and force other teams to match, Davis forces the IU players to match the other team's style of play. In turn, we will always play down to the competition... this drives me NUTS!
MD: "We didn't want to take a lot of threes tonight. They did a good job of fighting Marco (Killingsworth) in the post. We didn't want to take any threes or quick shots. We knew it was going to be a halfcourt game because of the style they play. We turned the ball over a lot the first half and knew we had to protect it."
On IU's defense:'Best defensive coach in the country.' Really? Then why don't we get rid of Davis' $900K salary and hire Marsh as our head coach. An IU athletic program that is hurting for money could save half a million a year and have the 'best defensive coach in the country' leading the IU team. Marsh may be a very good defensive coach... but best in the country? That is just a stupid comment... PERIOD!
MD: "We played with a lot intensity. There was a lack of communication at times. Our defense is playing with intensity. We are just playing better, way better than ever before. Coach Marsh is the best defensive coach in the country."

You are right on with your 1st comment. They should make the opp. change to stop IU.
However with the 2nd comment, I think you missed the point. He is complementing his asst. coach. Many different talents are required to be a successful head coach. Not just defense.
No I understand Davis' point. He is complimenting his Assistant Coach and that is not a bad thing. But the 'Best defensive coach in the country?' Come on... That is just plain ridiculous. It becomes a joke, not a compliment, when Davis exaggerates to that extent.
I agree with you that a head coach requires many talents, but my point is that if Marsh is the 'Best defensive coach in the country' he would be a MUCH BETTER option as IU's head coach than Davis. Davis isn't the 'best' at anything. Far from it!
