I am Indy!

Having grown up a KISS fan, and a member of the KISS Army, I must say I was quite excited about the IRL hiring Simmons-Abramson Marketing Group to help raise awareness of the excitement that is Indy Racing.

A big thank you to Michael for hooking us up today with the chance to listen to the Indy teleconference live at 2pm.

Teleconference Transcript - indyracing.com

After listening to Gene... his main mission... Build the Indy Brand! 4 letters I-N-D-Y... INDY! I have no doubt he has some strange ideas and will try some things that will absolutely bomb... but in the end, I also have no doubt that INDY will be on the minds of many more folks than it is today.

Having read Gene's books, he is a master at Viral marketing and keeping things simple. KISS really was appropriate on so many levels. He's already started with this year's marketing slogan... I am Indy! 4 letters that will be repeated over and over and over again.

And the "anthem" while not overly musically stylish, in fact it could be called a bad "We Will Rock You" rip off, it does have a hook that is repeated at least 100 times in a minute and a half. Catchy and effective it should prove to be. Especially when paired with video of on-track action.

Remember, the main competion is NASCAR Winston... er Nextel... er Sprint... er whatever it is this year. What other brand is as well known worldwide as NASCAR??? KISS! If anyone is going to get the INDY brand everywhere... it's Mr. Simmons.

Man I don't know what to expect from this. The racing has been OUTSTANDING, yet the masses don't know about anything other than NASCAR. This may be a brilliant hire by the folks at 16th and Georgetown.

Gene Simmons and his fellow KISS members were not your typical band. They didn't do it for the love of their music, they did it for money. Plain and simple. They had a business plan. They planned their makeup, the removal of their makeup, everything they did was to garner attention. They marketed like no other band had ever done before, or will ever do again. They made a boat load of money, and yet their music really was pretty bad. Their popularity lasted and lasted because they were always in the Public Eye. Mr. Simmons is a marketing genius. This year will be interesting.
