IU BBall Open Practice

This is just great comedy. I must say that I've somewhat gotten over what IU Basketball has become under Davis and have learned to just enjoy the humor that comes when the team starts its annual conference melt down and Davis starts waxing poetic.

So IU goes on the road and loses twice... badly. Then comes home and holds an open practice the day before their Northwestern matchup. Call me crazy, but wouldn't that be a good time to close practice?

Indiana Men's Basketball Practice Report, Jan. 31 - iuhoosiers.com

A few quotes from Mike:
On being patient against Northwestern:
MD: "We just have to play our style of basketball. Northwestern is a team that their system is different from anyone we will play against. Defensively, your rules are really out the door because if you overplay the wing or they will backdoor cut you. You can't be soft with them, but you can't overplay them either."
ARGHHHH... what is "our style of basketball?" But better yet, why would your defensive rules be 'out the door' because of NW's style? Wouldn't it be imperative that you more intently pay attention to your defensive rules, so they don't backdoor cut you?

On winning two home games this week boosting the team's confidence:
MD: "One win is what we need and that is to be 5-3 in the Big Ten. The game on Saturday is a non-conference game and what we are focused on now is being in the hunt in the conference. We don't have to worry about who beats who because teams are going to beat each other. That is one thing we are trying to work on now is where our mindset is. We lost two road games last week. The season isn't over. We have to go out and play our style of basketball."
Glad to see that Mike appears to be focused on NW and not #1 UCONN. Or he could just be setting up his excuse for a loss to the Huskies. That next quote sounds like a Yogi Berra quote... duh! There's that 'our style of basketball' comment again. If only we knew what that style was.

On practice this week:
MD: "It has been good. I was disappointed in practice on Monday because we had more practice than we deserved to have. Because after you play a game, you shouldn't be able to practice as hard as we did on Monday. It has been pretty good."
Thanks for saving the best for last. Since the team played on Sunday, practice this week would be defined as Monday and Tuesday. So if practice was good... how could you be disappointed on Monday because you had more practice than you deserved to have? That makes no sense. But its been pretty good. HUH?
