IU - MSU PostGame

MSU 87 - IU 73

Some Random Thoughts on tonight's game at Michigan State:

Why would DJ go to Birmingham to an orthopedic specialist when the best in the country are in Indianapolis and provide their services FREE of charge to the University?

Marco either scores or turns the ball over on the Offensive end. Marco had 27 points and 5 turnovers. On the Defensive End he either plays matador defense or is out of position and gives up offensive rebounds. Marco had 1 rebound while Davis had 10 rebounds and 23 points while sitting on the bench for a good portion of the first half in foul trouble .

This 4-1 offense will not get IU to the free throw line for easy points.

MSU scored on every out of bounds play they had coming out of a time out. By itself not a big issue... but coupled with this happening EVERY game, that is not a good thing.

Vaden is a STUD!!!!! Why did IU go away from him when he was hot?

Davis did a good job substituting for Marco. Allen would come in a minute prior to a TV timeout so Marco not only got a minute blow, he also got the TO. Smart substituting.

Calloway played a solid game at the point while Monroe recovers from Hemorrhoid surgery... OUCH!

41-39 MSU at the half... IU played a good first half!

At the 14 minute mark and IU down 8, Davis played Marco and Ben together. Marco played outside and Ben inside... strange if you ask me, but it led to a Wilmont 3 and a turnover on Ben. IU also went zone with these 2 in and gave up a layup and a 10 footer... double strange. That only lasted for 2 minutes as Davis substituted Kline in for Allen and kept the 2 bigs in for the next 4 minutes. IU's offense became 100% Marco during that time. It wasn't pretty.

What was with Wilmont? He plowed over Tranton for his 5th foul then ran all over the court pissed off at the call.

Game was over with 4 minutes left and IU down 15... why was Marco playing and not Ben? I think at this point it would be good to get Ben as many minutes as you can.

Musberger and Lavin are AWFUL!!!!!!

Why was IU fouling down 15 under a minute... with Marco still in there?

Marco can SCORE! I want to party with him.

If IU is in a close game, can they afford to have Marco in at the end? Other teams will just hack him and send him to the line. 1-4 from the line tonight.

Wednesday nights are good College BBall on TV... right now I have 9 different games to choose from.

And I'm still trying to figure out IU's style. Tonight sure didn't look like the SEC style Marco, DJ, and Davis said they were playing a week ago. In turn I watched a bit of the Auburn/Alabama game tonight and all I saw was run and gun, jack it up, and turn it over. If that is SEC style... ICK! But it sure wasn't what I saw in the IU/MSU game tonight.

One thing I noticed over the past few games is that teams will use a big to screen a guard and Marco will switch and take the guard. This lets the other team pass it to the big for an easy score. IU needs to fight through the screens. The defense was horrible last night!

I predict that IU will go as Vaden goes. He is an amazing talent that is not being used enough by Davis. This pass to Marco then stand around offense is not going to be successful against athletic teams and smart coaches.

And as the tide of the game began to turn in the second half, what adjust did Davis make? None. Just keep throwing the ball into Marco. Vaden needs more touches. He active on and off the ball and can score from anywhere.

Free Vaden!!

Josh, I've noticed that as well and I don't understand it. If IU were playing 2 bigs, I could understand it a little bit, because you would still have a big inside to help out after the switch. But with 4 guards, Marco just can't jump out like that.

Spork Boy, you earn a Bingo my friend. B for Vaden, I for Underutilization, N for Marco Offense, G for Lack of Adjustments and O for Free Vaden. B-I-N-G-O!
