A sad day in Indy!

Ouch! I don't know know what to say. Another great season ends in disappointment for the Colts.

The last couple of years, the Colts always had a game or 2 at home during the regular season where they let things get away and lost... at the time it may not have seemed like a big deal... but in the end, the last 2 years, they missed out on home field advantage by 1 game each year and in turn had to play at New England. This year, they took care of business, went 13 and 0, gained home field advantage, then took the rest of the year off. While they ended up healthy for today's game, they were rusty... and ultimately, that rust cost them the game today.

And while Vanderjagt's miss at the end didn't ultimately cost them the game... that effort was pathetic! I don't think I've seen a high school kicker miss a FG that badly. Mike, GOODBYE! Come on Colts, get a kicker that has a solid leg and can get the ball in the end zone on kickoffs. I'll take my chances on the field goals. Vandy may have the best percentage in the NFL... but he misses the big one and requires a 2nd kicker for kickoffs.

And a note to the NFL office... that officiating crew today should never work the NFL again. That was an embarassment. From the missed pass interference on the Colts, to the mystery movement on Glenn, to the movement on the Steelers O-Line on 4th Down that was called a "we didn't see anything, so we'll call a do over", to the poor spot on 4th down that gave the Steelers a first down, to the INCREDIBLY bad call on the Steeler Interception that was ruled an incomplete pass on the challenge. Absolutely AWFUL officiating in a Huge Game. Had the Colts won that game, the officiating would have been center stage... and that's too bad.

Time to become a Yankee fan... that way I can pass my jinx on to the one team I hate more than any other. If I can't be happy, at least Yankee fans won't be happy either.

well what's the verdict.

Is it John Cooper Snydrome?

Or perhaps some DanMarinoItis?

or maybe just a case of Ewings Disease?

at some point champions have to win championships.

Sometimes I think Cary Blanchard put some curse on the team when he was ousted by Mike VandePants many moons ago. I remember he was quite bitter over the whole deal and we've now lost two playoff games as a result of bad FG kicks from our usually reliable kicker.

Maybe he just should of drop-kicked the damn ball.

It's the Cary Blanchard Curse... I like that!

The previous anonymous is right. There is a syndrome at work.

Peyton Manning is a classic underachiever. He played one quarter yesterday, and was lame for the other three. If this was the only down game he's had in the playoffs I'd say it was just bad luck, but he's shown the same habit year after year: He doesn't get up for the big games.

Payton Manning is, as I say, a classic underachiever. His father was an NFL quarterback, so he followed the "easy" path and became an NFL quarterback. Just like Pete Rose, Jr., Evan Bayh, Michael Andretti, and the president of the United States, Manning has simply followed after his father and enjoyed an uninterrupted series of open doors. Of course, these guys have all had to perform, but they'd had the best ov everything.

Now admittedly, Peyton is 6' 5" and has an arm on him. That is courtesy of his mother and father, too. Admittedly, the guy has a good ethic about the profession. His idea of a big evening is watching game film.

But he is NOT hungry to win. He grew up in a world where guys grow up to be NFL quarterbacks. He's an NFL quarterback. What's the big deal? Archie never won the big game. Dan Marino never won the big game.

Manning is the heart and soul Colts, the real franchise player, now and for years to come. He'll do credit to the franchise, and when he is finished he'll own ever record in the books.

But he'll never win a Super Bowl. Indianapolis is stuck with him, and we could do worse. But I think it is time to stop saying "Wait'll next year." The Colts have peaked.

AZ... AZ... AZ...

You make a compelling case... but I must disagree with you on this one.

See my article today for my reasoning.
