So the big question today... do the players play their game of the year for their coach? Or do they continue their lazy defense and stand around and chuck 3's offense?
Nice to see Calloway's speed on Dee Brown... too bad 30 seconds of good defense on the first possession was wasted with a Marco sidestep.
OLE!
Marco! Polo! Marco! Polo! Marco! Polo! - that didn't take long.
OLE!
IU 6 - ILL 14 - 4 minutes in.
Where the heck did a triangle and 2 come in??? Not that it mattered much as Marco whiffed.
OLE!
Now why in the HELL would they bring up Coach Knight not calling Mike after his resignation??? Gotta get that cheap shot in! Why would he call? Why would any coach? Shouldn't coaches be focused on their own teams?
OLE!
Where is Mike's Crimson? Does he no longer have any respect for the Cream and Crimson? Remind me why he is still on the bench?
OLE!
OLE!
1 FG in over 7 minutes. Where have I seen this before?
OLE!
OLE!
IU 10 - ILL 27
Come on Mike, put in Kline! At least give him some playing time for the loyalty he has shown you these last 5 years. Especially since Illinois is playing a 6'10, 6'10 and 6'9 front line.
IU 1 assist and 7 turnovers in 14 minutes.
OLE!
OLE!
OLE! and the Marco foul. Hey Marco... you are going to be on Sportcenter for that matador effort.
Nice 1-3-1 zone with Marco at the top. Are you serious?
OLE!
Ill 38 - IU 25 at the half.
Calloway did a great job on Dee Brown in the first half holding him to 2 pts.
IU 2-13 from 3 pt range in the first half.
OLE!
OLE! and the foul on Allen.
How about getting Dinc some playing time. I mean the poor guy has lost his eligibility for 8 minutes in 3 games this year. At least get him some playing time. Can his rebounding and defense be any worse than what we are seeing in the first half?
So with CBS showing us all the shots of Antoine Davis, are we supposed to feel bad? Last I checked college basketball was a business.
OLE!
"This is a very poor zone!" - Packer
OLE!
Hey Sean Kline got in with 12 minutes left and IU down 17.
Please note that from the 12 minute mark to the 8 minute mark, there were no OLE! references. Marco came back in with IU down 11.
OLE! Dee right past Marco... 15 pt margin.
I love watching Mike smiling and winking while his team is getting killed. How many more games do I need to watch this? 5 more huh...
"IU needs to go on one of it's patented runs" - Packer
What?????
OLE!
So IU cuts the lead to 11 with 2:30 minutes left... but instead of fouling a horrible ft shooting team in Illinois, Mike plays chase the ball defense until they get it inside with 5 seconds on the shot clock when they foul. Then they don't rebound the missed FT and Illinois gets another possession which Illinois miled for the entire shot clock. Then an OLE!!! Game Over! Season Over! Career Over!
Thanks Packer for telling everyone that Davis was never given a chance and had to coach against tremendous odds.
IU 58 - ILL 70
IU 13 - 10, 5-7 in the B10
Mike Davis did join Fischer and said the following:
Well they got off to a quick start and we got off to a slow start. We missed 5 layups and 5 wide open 3s and instead of being down at the half we should have been up. Man to man is not very good. We have too many weaknesses so we thought we could do better in a zone. But they made too many 3s there at the end. We talked about putting bodies on guys instead of going for the rebounds but we did a poor job of that. We had guys standing around. It was a good game under the circumstances. We going to try to play a lot more zone because our man to man is just plain bad. We got guys that just can't play man to man. We hadn't made shots and when you don't make shots you can't win. We just missing way too many layups. We'll play hard this week and take care of the home court. The magic number is 4. We have to get to 17 wins to get into the tournament.Man I feel for these kids. They are only executing the game plan and doing what they are told. It's not their fault. Thank you for putting the effort out there guys! Stick around next year and see what can happen with a real coach! Your efforts will be rewarded with Wins!
On a positive note. Greenspan should have coaches crawling out of the woodwork wanting this job. After the last 3 years, just a little progress and the new coach will be "Knighted!"
Off to watch Knight School tonight so I can see some coaching.

I swear to Mike Davis's god that this guy is more self-centered than I thought. First, he plays messiah to unite the tribes of Hoosier nation, offering himself up on the crucifix of every basketball goal in Indiana.
And now that he has been resurrected as a man free of the burdens of being a crappy coach, he specifically names every shortcoming on the team--shortcomings that I believe he and his coaching staff should take at least half of the responsibility for.
Man to man is not very good. We have too many weaknesses so we thought we could do better in a zone.
He admits the team sucks but doesn't address how those weaknesses came about.
We talked about putting bodies on guys instead of going for the rebounds but we did a poor job of that. We had guys standing around.
I guess rebounding is finally a point of emphasis. I know he worked hard on getting guys to take charges but not on crashing the boards.
We going to try to play a lot more zone because our man to man is just plain bad. We got guys that just can't play man to man.
Glad to hear he's not above throwing his team under the bus. How are these kids so loyal to him? But he will not take his share of the blame for his team's inability to play man-to-man. And judging from the results, they can't play zone either.
We hadn't made shots and when you don't make shots you can't win. We just missing way too many layups.
I acually agree with Davis on something.
We'll play hard this week and take care of the home court. The magic number is 4. We have to get to 17 wins to get into the tournament.
And there is his answer for everything. It's the Hertz motto gone bad: We try harder. And the sad thing is, IU looked as if it put more energy into the game, but the kids couldn't execute, couldn't hit their shots, and couldn't have kept me from getting a double-double.
And yet, all Davis is concerned about is his record. Is he so confident to think the team will win enough games to make the NCAA tournament? Everything is going wrong for this team and he has no sense of urgency. Just a magic number: 4.
After all that he has been through, Davis still doesn't get why most of Hoosier Nation is pissed at him. From the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel: "I thought this was pretty good after everything that's been going on," he said. "We fought hard. We're still 13-10. It's not like we’re 10-13."
True, but I think they're playing more like they're 3-20. And now that Davis is a lame duck coach, that's pretty much how I expect this team to play the rest of the year: lamely.
I hope not. These kids deserve better.
Amen!
Spork Boy you are spot on across the board.
I don't understand how the administration can expect a guy who quit on his team to continue to coach. You are right... these kids deserve better.
