IU - Northwestern Postgame

Random thoughts on tonight's game:

What ever happened to Home announcing crews? ESPN+ killed that going with split crews the last 5 years... 1 from each team. Tonight, we get Northwestern alum Sean Morris and ESPN U Studio host Mike Gleason.

Bring back Chuck Marlow, Laz and Kitch!

Nice to see that Mike wasn't using the media for mis-information. His media stated, lineup change did indeed start the game... Killer, Wilmont, Kline, Stickland and Vaden.

Why would Marco play the middle pressure on a full court trapping defense? That is a dumb place to play a guy that can barely run up and down the court without getting winded. Nice adjustment by NW to run Marco's man immediately to the post for an easy layup.

Once IU settled back into their base defense, what was Marco doing out there? He was running around in circles and had no clue.

Glad to see with Strickland back at the point, the offense became the stand around, dribble until the shot clock gets to 10 seconds, then make a one on one move we all love. Exciting stuff. I like Marco shooting the 3. What happened to the SEC style?

I'm sure the folks in row 2, 3 and 4 really appreciated the 3 guys in the front row who stood the whole game.

Thanks Lavin... you aren't even doing this game and all I can think of when I see Suhr is "Pepper Pot"

Please tell me Davis really didn't draw up that last play of the first half to be a 3 point shot from Killer?

Halftime - IU 27 NW 24 in an Epic Battle Royale

Note to Marco... when your man lays a pick on your teammate, you need to pick up your teammate's man... layup! Nice cheap shot Marco... at least the official caught the 3rd time... real mature!

Do you think IU Students today see Marco and Monroe in the Business School like I saw Anderson and Nover?

Why in the world won't IU players defend the 3-pt line? How many wide open 3s can a team give up?

What kind of shot was Ben Allen's FT attempt? Half shot put, half boomerang throw that barely drew iron.

On a similar note, good thing Hachad can't hit FTs or this game might have come down to a last second shot.

IU fans are nuts... why in the world would you be yelling "SHOOT" when Suhr gets the ball up 10 with a minute to go? That's just plain STUPID!

I'm glad IU doesn't have to play at NW this year... that would be a loss.

Kudos to Suhr and Wilmont! Without those 2 tonight, IU loses.

IU 72 - NW 63 13-5 overall and 5-3 in the B10

Davis Radio Postgame... note: not an accurate transcript... just typing as fast I can.
I told you if we go 5-3 that would be pretty good. The most important thing is our defense and it was pretty good. They hit some big shots. We overhelped a few times and gave up layups. At halftime they had 24 pts and 13 were off turnovers. I told our guys that if you turn the ball over, throw it out of bounds or do something other than give it to them for a fast break. I thought we needed a change, guys were comfortable and not accountable. I thought Sean gave us energy, Suhr was good and Allen is getting better. At the church say Amen for Rod. He was good. I think last night he came in and used the gun machine. I'd really like to thank our crowd as they pulled for us. We are a good team but they are fragile. The boys need that. Against this team you are going to make a lot of turnovers. Our guys did a great job, only 12 rebounds. Marco had 12 points and Suhr did some really good things tonight. You gotta play guys that wanna win. Hopefully we do better this time than the last time we played the #1. Were pretty good and hopefully the crowd will be crazy and help us get an upset.
Good News! I saved $89.45 tonight by giving up my season tickets. Season total savings is now up to $1826.03

Just found your site tonight. Reading your thoughts got me fired up again. That had to be the least inspiring win I've watched. This team is going to win just enough so there is no way Davis gets fired. Then next year is going to be abysmal.

Looks like I need to read through your archives. Keep up the fight for the good of IU Basketball

You want a driking game? How about everytime Davis says, "um?" No, that won't do. People will pass out after five minutes.

How about taking a drink everytime Davis brings up his record at IU? Has there ever been a coach who is so worried about what other people think about him? If IU wins, he gives God the glory and brags about his record. If he loses, he blames his "keeds" and points out that he has a good record.

I didn't get to see this game, but watching the game track on ESPN.com and reading the stats tells me that IU did all it had to do to win this game. Nothing more. IU was supposed to win. And that's what they did. No statement game. No elevated level of play, except may Wilmont. Just beat the vanilla team.

My wish was that the team would come out with their pants on fire and destroy Northwestern. They should have. If Davis doesn't want Hoosier Nation to panic, we need to see more than uninspired wins against marginal teams. We need to see some ass kicking.

I have little hope for Saturday against UCONN. Will we see the team that played Duke to a near draw? Or what we've seen the past three games?

IU needs a statement game and Father Mike better be preachin' and sayin' prayers to his flock about playing as if the apocalypse is coming on Sunday. And if IU rolls over and dies on Saturday without a decent fight, he can bet his ass that it will.

I gotta stop hijacking these posts.

Mike, that is awesome! On Saturday I will yell Ole and raise my glass each time the Matador allows an easy bucket.

Mom and Dad, by the time you get to my house after the game, I will probably be passed out. Just let yourself in.

Please tell me Davis did not say "I told you if we go 5-3 that would be pretty good."

Looking at the schedule IU had for their first 8 games, 5-3 is not a record for a B10 champion.

If this is the most talent Davis has ever had, and 5-3 is pretty good. What will be good for next year's team? .500?

Davis must go!
