IU - Penn State Post Game

Over the weekend I was able to watch the replay of the game last Wednesday night... 1 word... UGLY!

Tonight should be different according to Davis... IU is going to play zone since their man-to-man defense is so bad.

And IU opens the game in MAN-TO-MAN!!!! And an immediate OLE! and a foul.

Deja Vu... IU is hitting their 3s early. But will it last?

OLE and a wide open PSU 3. And again OLE for a 3! And a 3rd OLE 3 pointer is the charm!

Hey I've got an idea... let's tell everyone we are going to play zone, but come out in man-to-man, but not defend the 3 point line... BRILLIANT!

And a 4th OLE on a 3... then an OLE by Marco on a 2... PSU 17 - IU 11. And IU isn't hitting their 25 ft 3 point attempts.

2 more wide open 3s for Penn State and it's a PSU 23 - IU 15 lead with 10 minutes left.

Glad to see that IU still has no idea how to run an offense against a zone. A 25 foot 3 is NOT a good shot.

If you have this game on DVR, tape, TIVO... be sure to go to the first half at the 6:06 commercial and when they show the cheerleaders, look up in the backround. There are maybe 20 fans up in the balcony and the main level was only full about 2/3rds of the way up. There is no one there tonight. I wonder why?

OLE on the inbounds pass for an easy PSU 3.

If not for Calloway suddenly becoming the next Jay Edwards with his silky smooth 'J', IU isn't even in this game.

PSU 35 - IU 34 at the half

Nice effort on the boards. It certainly helped that PSU didn't have a single player over 6'6. But IU was going after the rebounds and got many second chances.

IU kept shooting long 3s and took a 7 pt lead after Marshall nailed 2 straight. Congrats to Marshall on reaching the 1,000 pt plateau.

After settling for 3s in the first half, PSU starting attacking the inside in the second half and got IU in foul trouble and getting to the 1-1 with over 12 minutes left.

2 wide open OLE 3's later and PSU is back on top with 10 minutes to go.

What is with the "5 reasons you can't blame Knight for his repeated outbursts" show on ESPN Classic? Any show that has 1980s footage of Bill Benner is a hatchet piece.

PSU has 8 Freshman, 4 Sophomores and a Senior... and they are playing with Mike's "most talented team since he has been at Indiana." SAD!

Congrats to Marshall for being a one man show in the second half and hitting 2 big 3s from deep as the shot clock was running out for the IU win.

IU 69 - PSU 65

The MSU game on Sunday could be really ugly... and I will be there. Thanks to DK for allowing me to witness the final home game of the Davis era.

Dude there isn't enough sugar in the world to make that game taste good.

I see 4 straight losses to end the season.

Steve:

I.U. needs Bob Knight back next year to reach and go beyond the record of wins at Bloomington. We need Steve Alford as his assistant. Bob Knight steps down after next year and Steve Alford gets a seven year contract. OLE!

I smell another NCAA Championship in the making at Bloomington. OLE!

Hold on now... were you partaking in the OLE! drinking game?

In a perfect world, Ohio State gets put on probation by the NCAA for 2 years, thad matta comes to IU and brings greg odon/his comrades with him....and we've got ourselves a national championship....can I dream?

Dude, I can't believe you threw out some Jay Edwards!

Man I would love that perfect world... Although the Death Penalty would be better for the Buckeyes. I find it very interesting that the OSU administration is actually wanting some sort of penalty to justify why they fired O'Brien so they don't have to pay up. Unfortunately the NCAA is so inept there is no way they do anything to OSU... but I will keep dreaming.

And Button... Have I ever mentioned that Jay used to hang out 2 doors down from my room at IU... of course I threw out some love to my brother Jay... gotta get his son in an IU uniform in 3 years.

I never knew Jay 'hung' at the south tower! You've been holding out all these years? Must have been buyin' some of that high-quality Willkie Weed! My favorite Knight quote on Jay...(Roughly) "Ever since he got here, Jay has been a monumental pain in my ass!" Classic!

Seems as though the masses are split
on Alford...old-schoolers know he will recruit the state well, win over the die-hard fans and be a decent coach. While the rest are hoping for a proven winner with a great rep, like Matta or or an other big name coach. Should be interesting...we all know one thing, it can't get an more unwatchable than the Davis era.

Oh yeah... Jay's supplier was 2 doors down... and his other supplier was 4 doors down. If you are going to enjoy the weed, you better have a clean urine supply as well.

As much as I think Alford would do fine, there are still so many Knight haters out there that he wouldn't reunite the fans. I think the admin has to have a full search and get the best coach available.
