Many storylines to comment on today...
Never in my lifetime would I have thought that I would have been glad that Billy Packer was doing an IU game. That is how AWFUL Lavin and Musberger have become. After watching yesterday's IU game this morning, I was ready to stick a screwdriver in each ear to burst my eardrums.
What is with the Spandex Tights? First Iverson, then Kobe and now Sullinger in White Tights on the OSU side.
OSU 8 - IU 0 - 5 minutes in
Why does CBS still scrunch the image when they do their scroll? What a terrible way to really screw up an HD picture.
After the first TO, IU had the ball and Vaden took a bad 3 attempt less than 10 seconds into the possession. Davis 0-1.
Wilmont had a quick 8 pts on a driving layup and 2 3 pt shots to tie the game at 8. Rod loves Davis' undisciplined style. Unfortunately those 3 makes had Rod feeling invincible and his missed NBA 3 led to a layup at the other end. And then Marco felt like he had to take a 3 as well. 2 more bad shots for the tally. Then another bad shot from Rod leading to a Marco foul.
After the second TO, OSU had the ball and they went right inside to Dials for an OLE layup! Matta 1-1
Only CBS can screw up their HD picture every 5 minutes. This makes me really excited for the 65 games over the next 3 weeks.
After the 3rd TO, OSU had the ball and they went right inside to Dials for an OLE layup! Matta 2-2
Why was Davis wearing Kentucky Blue today?
After the 4th TO, IU had the ball and Vaden dribbled it off his foot and out of bounds for a turnover. Davis 0-2.
Why with Marco out the last 8 minutes of the half with foul trouble, did IU stop pushing the ball? You have Calloway in the game slowly dribbling up the court... why? Especially when you have a 5 guard lineup?
OSU took a TO with 29 seconds left and set up a play that got Sullinger a layup however he decided to try to pass it for a dunk instead and a turnover. Matta 2-3
IU 26 - OSU 25 at the half.
First play of the second half for IU is a whirling out of control Vaden 5 footer that barely got backboard. Davis 0-3
Was there a rule change in the B10 Tourney? Does it no longer matter when you release the ball on a charge? I've seen 5 different times during this tourney where a guy let go of the ball, then charged and yet all 5 were waved off.
After the First TO of the second half, OSU couldn't get the ball inside and settled for a bad 3. Matta 2-4.
When CBS scrunches the screen to get their scroll at the bottom, Marco looks like he weighs 300+.
IU's 4 guard lineup killed them as Vaden couldn't handle Sullinger inside. J.J. scored OSU's first 13 pts of the second half.
After the Second TO of the second half, Marshall forced a contested 3 pointer. Davis 0-4.
After the Third TO of the Second half, Dials travelled while driving to the basket. Matta 2-5.
I really like Calloway's speed and his ability to push the ball... why Davis has the reigns on him I have no idea.
After the Fourth TO, OSU went right inside to Dials for an OLE layup. Matta 3-6.
OSU came out of a TO with 40 seconds left and faked a drive to Dials and instead hit Sylvester for an easy layup and a 1 point lead at 52-51. Matta 4-7 coming out of TOs.
IU came out of a TO with 25 seconds left and ran down the clock to 10 seconds before going to Marco who forced a tough shot, but Wilmont got the rebound and had a 10 footer to win at the buzzer but he came up short. Davis 0-5 coming out of TOs.
OSU 52 - IU 51
OLE Count: 9
Bad Shot Count: 13
Kudos to Wilmont down the stretch making big plays at the offensive end. He earned the Chevrolet Player of the Game. That game was all Rod Wilmont. Heck of a game from him.
OSU really lives and dies by the 3 and with their #2 scorer 0-14 for the Tourney, IU had every chance to win this game.
OSU now plays Iowa tomorrow at 3:30 for the B10 Tourney Championship

I don't understand this team. Where was this energy, passion, and drive when their coach's back was against the waa? Why are they playing better now that Davis is gone?
At the risk of having my Hoosier Nation membership revoked, I'm having trouble rooting for this team. I can't seem to separate my loathing for Davis from my love for Hoosier basketball. I just don't want him to ride off into the sunset on a happy note. But I want the kids to do well.
I hate this.
I understand your contradiction and feel the exact same thing. When Rod missed that shot I felt truly badly for him and the rest of the players. But at the same time I felt relief that I wasn't going to have to hear about how great a coach Mike Davis is and what a mistake IU made.
I'm glad the players will get to experience the NCAA tourney environment. Maybe the best thing that could happen would be to get an 8/9 seed, win a game, then lose to a 1 seed so we can all move on.
Despite have considerable disdain for Killingsworth, I haven't seen a battle of the bigs like the one I watched between him and Terence Dials. The refs swallowed their whistles as those two hunks of beef easily committed 10 fouls apiece.
This game had some ugly shooting, timely spurts, and luck that shined on Ohio State in the end. Contradictions aside, this was an entertaining game to watch--once you got past all the stuff that caused you to pull your hair out (hello, Marco? Stop shooting threes).
Steve:
I.U. is on the bubble. What if they do not get in the dance?
That would be just GREAT!
Ummm, IU is not on the bubble. I'm pretty confident about that one.
I was one of the lucky thousands to be at the game today and I thought IU did a relatively good job playing up to OSU. Of course, they still made all of the sloppy mistakes on defense, forced shots on offense, had their trademark 6 min. scoring drought and in the end it cost them the game. However, overall they played more consistent than I've seen them in ages and a few times they actually looked like they knew what they were doing.
I swear this team would be so much better if they could only control their emotion and think before they play. Watching the Iowa game beforehand, the two offenses are such a contrast! Iowa's guys actually move with and without the ball. What an amazing thought...
Finally, I'm not so sure whether it's better for IU to win or lose at this point. Win and you have to deal with the press and non-IU folk crap about how IU fans never gave Davis a chance and what a great coach he really is (really, it's amazing how much of that same line I've heard in the last few weeks from non-IU fans...it's always: "well, what did you expect? There was always so much speculation around Davis getting canned that it hurt his recruiting."...Complete BS). Also, let's say Davis sneaks into the sweet 16 or even the elite 8; he is increasing the liklihood that one of the better programs searching for a coach will pick him up. Which, in turn, would increase the liklihood of guys leaving to go with him. For example, I couldn't really see Vaden leaving for a mid-major. So, if Davis loses and we pick up a quality coach, chances are that everyone comes back.

Believes we're a 7 seed...
IU is in the tournament....but expect more of the same. This team can't get up for the IU-PU rivalry (I know, they won both meetings, but looked like crap doing so), so I doubt they will do anything in the NCAA. You can't go 5-9 minutes without scoring (in an atmosphere where teams are playing with heart, desire and a sense of urgency) and think you will come out on top. They had plenty of opportunities today and choked. I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it again...Davis' teams have no role players, no on-court smarts and (obviously) no leadership from the whiner in the suit on the sidelines. You never know who will show up and who won't...Wilmont was great today but there is no consistency, other than knowing there will be lots of OLEs and 'Killingteam' will misfire from close-range on numerous occasions.
I was able to go to the games Friday..something I've never been able to do. We were 12 rows up, behind the basket and I have to say the atmosphere is awesome...but to watch a talented team get out to a 10-2 lead and go brain-dead for 9 minutes made me think I was nuts for paying the money to see it in person. This team and its coach are unwatchable, uninspired and embarrassing. I am ready to move on to the next chapter of IU hoops which will hopefully bring some fundamentals, pride and actual coaching to a once storied program.
Thanks for the first hand accounts from the games the past 2 days guys. I was tempted to head down to the Fieldhouse today and scalp a ticket, but decided to watch all the games on TV today. It was the right call.
IU is in the Big Dance... the only question is 7 or 8 seed? Since the committee tries not to have a rematch in the first or second rounds... IU won't be an 8 seed in the Duke or UConn regions and they won't be a 7 seed in the OSU region... or is that Pod? Odds are they will be looking at a second round game against Memphis, Villanova, Texas, Pittsburgh or UNC. That is if they can get past a 10.
