After 2 years of being on the outside, it's nice to watch the Selection Show waiting to see where IU is headed.
Duke, UCONN, Villanova and Memphis are the #1 seeds. I'm going to go out on a limb right now... only 1 of these will make it to the final 4. UCONN will be the only one. Go Southern!
IU #6 vs San Diego State #11 in Salt Lake City
This should be a Mike Davis Dream going against Steve Fisher. Fisher actually makes Amaker look like a coach. I watched the SDSU game last night and IU should matchup well and get a win here.
Gonzaga gets the #3 seed and would be IU's second round matchup. Just how would Vaden match up against Morrison? Not well I think.
Strange bracketing this year... Joe Lunardi is usually pretty close. Outside of the 4 #1 seeds, his bracket was way different. Lunardi's last Bracket
UCONN and Villanova both playing in Philly... along with Kentucky, Arizona and Wisconsin... that will be a tough ticket.
Tennessee gets a #2??? Had they won the SEC Tourney, that would have been appropriate, but with a loss in the tourney, they should have been a 3.
Boston College after playing in the ACC Championship today got shipped out to Salt Lake City to play on Thursday. Nice bonus for beating UNC yesterday.
Missouri State #31 in the RPI got left out.
Cincinnati was .500 in the #2 Big East Conf with a decent non-conf record and they were left behind.
South Carolina beat Tennessee, UK and Florida twice yet didn't get in.
Air Force got in without beating anyone in the top 50. I hadn't even heard Air Force being mentioned as a bubble team.
What was with Jim Nance ripping apart the MVC and pimping for the ACC? Note to Jim, the ACC only had 4 decent teams this year. Packer is rubbing off... time to stick with Golf and the Masters. And thank you Billy Packer for spilling the beans on the 8/9 Arizona/Wisconsin matchup early.
Clark thinks all 4 #1 seeds will make it to Indy. Whew... it would be a cold day when Clark and I agree. We shall see who makes it to the final 4. I still say only UCONN makes it.
NCAA Tourney Bracket
After looking at the brackets a second time... here are my thoughts.
The toughest bracket is the Villanova, Ohio State, Florida, Boston College bracket.
The Duke Bracket could be the Upset bracket. Watch out for Texas A&M to beat Syracuse as the 5/12 upset... S. Illinois is going to get the 6/11 upset over West Virginia... and NC State is going to get the 7/10 upset over Cal... and 13 Iona over 4 LSU. The 2/3 matchup between Texas and Iowa will get to the final four. I think Texas will rally over Duke.
In the UCONN Bracket, Utah State could upset Washington in the 5/12 game. Outside of that, I see UCONN going through this bracket without much difficulty. If I'm Carolina though, I'm not happy about seeing Michigan State in round 2. Izzo can get his team playing their best in the Tourney.
The Villanova Bracket has an interesting 8/9 game with Arizona and Wisconsin. I see Wisconsin getting past an undisciplined Wildcat team. Boston College got hosed, but could rally and be a tough out for Villanova in an old school Big East matchup in the Sweet 16. Watch out for the UW-Milwaukee upset over Oklahoma in the 6/11 game and UNI over Georgetown in the 7/10 game. I don't see Villanova coming out. It's going to be the winner of the OSU vs BC elite 8 matchup.
The Memphis Bracket. Kansas is prime for an upset after winning the B12. Self may have difficulty keeping his young players grounded and Bradley is a good team. This is the year Gonzaga beats Xavier, IU, UCLA, then Memphis and Morrison takes them to the final four on his back.
Thoughts?

Steve:
Wait a minute. What is the elevation of Salt Lake City. Marco will be out of breath just walking onto the court. You expect him to have a great game?
Think again. I see I.U. going down in defeat.
Go Gonzaga!
Good point... I had forgotten the whole elevation issue. Not a good thing for Marco. His 4 minute stints will become 2.
I still don't see SDSU beating IU. Gonzaga will be a different story. Adam will go for 50 against IU.
Two thoughts, since you asked for them:
1) The selection committee process continues to make about as much sense as the BCS.
2) Absolutely no way does IU deserve a 6 seed. Had they beat Wisky maybe I could see justifying a 6.
Oh well, only a couple more games until the coaching search is officially underway.
Corkster, I agree and I agree.
Though the coaching search better already be officially underway. That better have started the day Davis stepped down.
As much as I would love to see Gonzaga make it to the final four, IU is a team that can beat them. I disagree with the number three seeding the Zags got, but they've struggled to run the table in their conference. I'm not sure even Morrison can get this team to the Final Four.
As for IU, the sixth seed way generous. Frankly, we should have gotten a seven seed and played in Dallas, that way I could see them play. ;-)
Since we're gonna be 4,500 feet above sea level, the potential high comedy of Killingsworth trying to catch his breath will be worth watching.
The scary thing is, I can see IU making the sweet 16 by beating Gonzaga.
Steve,
Instead of "officially started" I should have said "allowed to comment publicly". That's what I meant.
I still have a glimmer of hope that they'll finally do the right thing about the basketball program based on how they went about getting Hoeppner for football. My only hope (well maybe not my only hope, but my major one) is that they get someone with an established record and not decide to "give someone a shot".
Gotcha Corkster. I hold the same hope of an established coach. And while I don't think Alford is the best candidate to unite the fan base, watching Iowa come out of time outs with a purpose and executing that purpose was enjoyable. I suppose I could grow to appreciate Alford as the head man should that be the route taken.
Spork Boy, "... the potential high comedy of Killingsworth trying to catch his breath..." PRICELESS!
