90th Running of the Indianapolis 500

What a wonderful Day!

Not a cloud in the sky... and it was brutally hot up in those aluminum stands... but I will take sunny and hot over rainy and cold every day in May.

The first half of the race was dominated by Dan Wheldon. His Target car was on rails lapping the field up to 7th place. But as happens many times... fast early does not always equal fast late.

I must thank Tomas for a bit of deja vu from my 4th turn seats as I watched him once again lose it right in front of me. I'm still hurting from 2002 and my 100-1 $20 ticket for Tomas to win. I can still taste that $2K.

That Rice/Castroneves hit was a HARD one right in front of my seats. And for the first time I saw debris, in the form of Helio's rear wing, WAY above the catch fence. Fortunately it dropped harmlessly on the track.

Interesting decision by Brian Barnhart to penalize Scott Dixon for blocking, as AGR drivers have made it an art form over the last 3 years without penalty. All I can say is that he better penalize others in the exact same way over the rest of the year.

What an outstanding finish. Michael, Marco, Sam, Dixon and Wheldon with 4 laps to go. Dixon and Wheldon struggled with traffic on the restart while Sam got through cleanly. Michael didn't have the speed all day to compete and it didn't take long for Marco to get by on the high side in 1 on lap 197. Sam followed Marco past Michael, but couldn't make the pass on Marco entering 3 on lap 199. But Sam is the MASTER of the draft at the finish line and he was able to utilize the stripstream perfectly to take the win at the line. An awesome finish.

Congratulations Sam!

Thanks to the guy with the gold hat that ruined my picture on the victory lap.

And if you stole my traffic cones Saturday night... I will hunt you down.

That was an outstanding race. I darn near cried when Sam took it from Marco down the stretch.

Those look like pretty good seats there in 4. How long have you had them?

What is this about cones? It seems that you need to buy new ones?

I've had seats since 1992. Despite what you hear from the morons in the media, the Indy 500 is tremendously popular and it is VERY difficult to improve your seats. I'm finally in the section I want to be in. Now it will just take me another 20 years to move up to the top of the section.

As for the cones... I'm not buying any... I'm hunting down my old ones. And a warning to those who might want to try again next year... I'll be on my porch with a shotgun... good luck!
