IndyCars at the Glen in the Rain!

Nothing beats rain on a road course for excitement and strategy. Too bad Awfully Bad Coverage has no clue as to how to broadcast racing... Some think Toyota will start the deathspiral for NASCAR... not me... it will be ABC taking over half of the coverage. But I digress... back to the racing.

The field took the green at the Glen with a wet track, but no rain. By lap 3 the groove was drying and the only question was who had the balls to go to slicks first... Tomas didn't fail to disappoint on lap 4 when he pitted and took on slicks. While sliding all over the track, Tomas ran a full 7 seconds faster than the field on his out lap, then 14, then 17 seconds. By lap 7 the leaders were coming in for slicks... and after the pit stops, Tomas' gamble paid off with him in the lead. Too bad Vision screwed him later when all the lead cars pitted under yellow except Tomas... Vision waited 1 lap later so he could come out in 15th, instead of the top 3.

Eddie is back in my good graces after punting a slow starting Danica into the fence. If you watch the replays... Danica is a good 5 car lengths back from the car in front of her... good for Eddie for pushing her along.

Then came the ABC proclaimed next F1 superstar, Marco driving like the impatient 19 year old he is. Trying to make an ill timed pass in the short section of the boot in the middle of the river. Nice of Michael to try to defend his son's bad decision by blaming Eddie for blatently taking him out. Note to Michael... watch the replay... Eddie simply ran the ONLY racing line there was.

Fortunately with Danica 2 laps down and Marco out of the Race, ABC had to show other cars... and great stories abound. Dixon staying out on slicks despite rain on the track with 1 lap to go. Meira finishing second... AGAIN... poor guy can't buy a win. Ryan Brisco in the Dreyer and Reinbold Escort Laser and Radar Detector sponsored Dallara (yes I had to say it since ABC never once showed the sidepod of the #5 car) finishing 3rd. Felipe Giaffone's 5th place finish for AJ Foyt? Ed Carpenter's 6th place finish after putting on rain tires with 2 laps to go and passing 5 cars on the last lap. Not a one of poor Andretti Green's drivers finishing in the top 10.

It was a great day at the Glen... and thanks to Eddie, the Andretti Whine is back! This should get interesting.

That race was incredible. Talk about a challenge. Some day I'm going to the glen and camping out. Looks to be fun even in the rain.
