At least in the eyes of this fan. Too bad the wonderful sportswriters of America couldn't do what was right. 5th in the AP, 6th in the USA Today Final polls... are you kidding me?
Boise State 13-0 had wins over #21 Oregon State, #24 Hawaii, and #11 Oklahoma
Boise State went undefeated and beat 3 Top #25 teams, while Florida went 13-1 and beat just 1 more (4) Top #25 team, and lost 1 game. And it took the SEC championship game in order to give Florida that 4th win over a top 25 team. Florida may have had a slightly tougher schedule... but Boise State's schedule was no cake walk... oh yeah and they went 13-0.
Boise State's Schedule
Sacramento State (4-7) 45-0
#21 Oregon State (10-4 Won Bowl Game) 42-14
Wyoming (6-6) 17-10
#24 Hawaii (11-3 Won Bowl Game) 41-34
Utah (8-5 Won Bowl Game) 36-3
La Tech (3-10) W 55-14
New Mexico St (4-8) W 40-28
Idaho (4-8) W 42-26
Fresno St W (4-8) 45-21
San Jose State (9-4 Won Bowl Game) W 23-20
Utah State (1-11) 49-10
Nevada (8-5 Lost to Miami by 1 in Bowl Game) 38-7
#11 Oklahoma (11-3 Lost to BSU in Fiesta Bowl) 43-42
Seems Boise State beat 6 Bowl teams and those Bowl teams went a combined 4-2.
And how about the following...
Florida lost to Auburn.
Auburn lost to Arkansas
Arkansas lost to Wisconsin
Wisconsin lost to Michigan
Michigan lost to USC
USC lost to Oregon State
Oregon State lost to Boise State who went undefeated!
Hmmm... or you could go...
Florida lost to Auburn
Auburn lost to Georgia
Georgia lost to Tennessee
Tennessee lost to Penn State
Penn State lost to Notre Dame
Notre Dame lost to USC
USC lost to Oregon State
Oregon State lost to Boise State who went undefeated!
or...
Florida lost to Auburn
Auburn lost to Georgia
Georgia lost to Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt lost to Oklahoma State
Alabama lost to Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State lost to Texas Tech
Texas Tech lost to Missouri
Missouri lost to Oregon State
Oregon State lost to Boise State who went undefeated!
I could go on and on as there are many more combinations... Florida lost and Boise State didn't.
Congratulations Boise State on your true undefeated National Championship season.
Florida, I hope you enjoy the Bowl of Crap Series Championship you claim.

There is no national champion in football. Championships are decided on the field, not by some Miss Congeniality popularity contest.
I had no idea that Boise State's schedule was that strong. 6 Bowl teams is definitely a strong enough schedule to warrant consideration if you go undefeated. They got hosed.
Yeah, but how many degrees of separation is there between Boise State and Kevin Bacon? Answer me THAT, sports fans!
Boise State should have been named national champion. No question. I guess they'll at least be a footnote in some ESPN retrospective.
Steve:
WELL SAID!!!!!
Let's determine the national championship on the field. Boise State would then have a chance to prove themselves.
WE NEED A TRUE PLAYOFF SYSTEM.
What gimmick with the blue field? It was decided among many groups in the community.
GO HOOSIERS! BEAT PURDUE!
We will hold the boilermakers to 53 points.

Great article Steve! Maybe if enough people complain the NCAA will finally go with a playoff system that is long over due.
TS,
I agree with you that the blue field is not a gimmick but I am shocked that you didn’t do your homework on it though. It was not decided among many groups in the community. In fact the athletic director Gene Bleymaier went to the schools president and told him if he was going to pay $750,000 for a new football turf that he wanted everyone to notice it. Mr. Bleymaier came up with the idea of the blue turf and the president told him to not tell the public until it was in place because the community would never go for it. After it was down and the team went undefeated at home the next year then the community embraced it.

It's all about the $$$.
And as long as people watch the BS Championship games, there will be lots and lots of money.
The only way they'll listen to us is if we stop watching the Championship games.
If I were the Broncos coach, I'd have National Championship rings made for my players and figure out somewhere to post a National Championship banner.
I like the BLUE field... especially when Miami has to play there in 15 degree weather ;-)
Impressive research Greg! TS... you must do better than that... though you were close on the Purdue prediction and if not for all the touch fouls at the end... 53 might have been spot on.
I like mattdantodd's idea of creating rings and a banner for BSU.
And Anna... this is just for you...
Kevin Bacon is married to Kyra Sedgwick, who's Episcopalian father Henry Dwight Sedgwick attended a small university founded in 1932 by the Episcopal Church... that university... Boise State! Amazing what you can find on the Internet.
Steve:
I stand to be corrected. Thank you Greg. I WILL do a better job next time.
