IU - Purdue Postgame

Man is it fun to watch IU basketball again! Kelvin Sampson is the PERFECT coach for IU.

For those of you that couldn't see the game due to 'ESPNU Suck', IU absolutely dominated Purdue for 40 minutes. It was one sweet ASS KICKING!!!

IU 85 - Purdue 58

But instead of talking about the game, I'm going to talk about the IU students who turned in one of the most PATHETIC and EMBARRASSING performances in the history of IU basketball. Here is a picture of the student section 1 minute into the start of the game. It finally was half full at the 10 minute mark, 3/4 full at the half and was back to half full with 10 minutes left. Note to IU... screw the students if this is going to be the effort of the "entitlement" generation. Give them their first come, first serve, student section in the one end of Assembly Hall they have been asking for... that should only account for 500 tickets. And sell the rest of the tickets to the general public.

You're kidding right? That picture had to have been taken 10 minutes before the game. Of course I couldn't see the game due to ESPNU and wouldn't know. What is this world coming to if IU students can't make it to the Purdue game on time.

Actually, I was saying the exact opposite during the game. I guess it's because I watched it on ESPNU and the shots of the crowd must have been really well-planned. In any event, I was really impressed with the kids that DID show - the Tigger and Eeyore kids, and the bananas, and the guys dressed like Sampson. The broadcast made it seem like the kids who were there were really into it. Maybe it's quality vs. quantity.

From my seats in Row 44 I could not see the student section. That's pathetic! After seeing your picture, I am completely changing my stance. Tickets should become first come/first serve. Open the doors 90 minutes before the game and make it open seating for students. That will get their spoiled asses off of Facebook, MySpace, or whatever the hell they're doing 15 minutes prior to a game!

Whoa!! Everybody step back from the ledge and take a deep breath.

Better now? Okay, we continue...

What we're witnessing here is the final gift from IU's former coach. The reputation and mistique of IU basketball has been seriously damaged (sorry to state the obvious) and will take time to rebuild.

It is perhaps Coach Sampson's toughest task to re-establish the program's reputation and start putting a good product on the floor. And then that reputation will have to reintegrate itself back into the campus fabric. This will take time (or one good tournament run) to accomplish.

The bottom line is that if he keeps winning games, he'll fill the seats.

At least they weren't around to rush the floor like they did with the Illinois game last year.

Or maybe those who were still there did. I don't know. Couldn't see it on TV.
