IU vs #6 OSU in Columbus

Ohio State held serve at home beating IU tonight. It's too bad IU doesn't get a chance at them in Bloomington.

Ohio State 74 - IU 67

A few observations...

DJ White came to play at both ends... he was physical with Oden pushing him away from the basket on the defensive end and he took the ball right at Oden's body at the offensive end. DJ has made tremendous strides from last year in his understanding of post play. Too bad IU doesn't have a backup that can spell DJ. 35 minutes is too much if you want him fresh at the end of the game.

Wilmont may be an excitable player and a streaky shooter, but he takes awful shots and tonight it lead to easy layups at the other end for OSU. His 2 early fouls really didn't hurt the team.

Conley is the real deal at point guard. He sees the whole court and knows how to get the ball to his teammates in a position to score... he's sneaky at the defensive end and knows how to drive to the bucket to get his own points... or as Lavin says "He's electric!" 10 assists and zero turnovers... very nice.

Am I seeing things, or does IU score after EVERY timeout. That's coaching + execution.

You know you are at a basketball school when the fans wear football helmets to the games... NOT!

Does Erin own that sweater in every possible color? Not that I am complaining.

I'm not a huge zone fan... but Kelvin has intrigued me with his use of the 2-3 and the 1-3-1 in specific game situations.

Stemler's 3rd foul at the 10 minute mark of the first half really hurt... and his 4th 5 minutes into the second half didn't help either.

Bassett has one effortless jumper.

Oden is impressive... whether it is swishing left handed free throws (9-10), slamming down offensive rebounds or swatting away attempts (4 blocks).

OSU led 35 - 29 at the half... but IU hit 2 quick 3s to start the 2nd half and it was close the rest of the way.

Lewis and Butler led this OSU team to the B10 championship last year... where are they now? On the bench... that says something about these Freshman. Cook has "in the gym" range.

The Duke Boy commercial is Hilarious!

I like Joey Shaw's agressiveness... quick release and willingness to put it up from anywhere... Reminds me of a guy name Edwards. Can't have him fouling out though.

Was that coaching I saw Kelvin Sampson doing when Joey Shaw fouled out at the 3 minute mark? Sampson was probably telling him that silly foul in the first half cost him being in the game at the end. He'll learn.

I really want to see Oden's birth certificate. He has to be 30.

The 3 point line can be your friend when you make the extra pass and take wide open 3 point shots. And it was IU's friend tonight.

I liked Sampson calling for DJ to foul Oden with 1 minute left... amazingly Oden drained both... left handed. That made 9 for 10... impressive!

IU may have lost this game, but they played very well on the road and will be a force in the B10 this year. Oh and they are fun to watch again.

OSU has a tough, tough schedule for a bunch of freshman. At home with IU, then at Illinois and at Wisconsin. Ouch! I wouldn't want to be Wisconsin having to win at OSU the last week of the season though. Wisconsin better have a 2 game lead in the B10.

Close but no cigar. You are a better fan than I as you didn't mention the AWFUL officiating. Talk about inconsistent with the foul calls. O$U is lucky they don't have to come to Assembly Hall this year.
