Letterman, CNN and the White House

This is just too funny. If you haven't seen Letterman this week... he had a bit on Monday called George W. Bush Inspiring American Youth. It was a 20 second clip of a Bush speech in Orlando last month. Standing over Bush's right shoulder was a 12-13 year old kid who repeatedly yawned, stretched, looked at his watch and was totally bored out of his gourd. It was hilarious.

On Tuesday, CNN ran the clip from the Letterman show and stated that the White House had called and said the Late Show edited the boy into the piece. Supposedly two hours later, CNN showed the clip again and they said that the boy was at the speech, but was not standing behind the President.

So Tuesday night Letterman shows the clips from CNN and states that neither statement is true. They didn't edit the tape at all. And Letterman went into a funny bit about White House coverups and faulty intelligence.

Wednesday night, Letterman rehashes the story and states that the White House called the Late Show and told them that they never called CNN. Now he is just going nuts about coverups in the White House and goes into a very funny bit about him turning up missing and CNN covering it up. Great stuff!

Now tonight, Dave goes over the whole story again this time adding that the White House called the Late Show Wednesday while he was taping, and they admitted that they had called CNN asking them to stop airing the speech because the people beside the kid were big donors and they didn't want them to be embarassed. Dave then proceeded to show CNN clips from earlier today where they apologized to Dave, but still weren't accurate.

This was some of Dave's best stuff... dry... witty... the kid was hilarious on his own, but overall Dave was top notch.

The bizarre thing here is that the White House was concerned over CNN running video of a Bush speech with a kid yawning in the background. Don't they have bigger fish to fry?

Just another example of the media feeding us what we are "supposed to believe" instead of the truth. Anyone that believes all that they see on CNN, FOX, CBS, ABC and NBC is simply naive. Makes you really wonder what the Iraqi sentiment toward the US is today... A state of cooperation... don't be so sure.
