In the rain and mud... the sloppy track benefitted the horses that got out front early... Smarty Jones ran second to Lion Hart until the stretch run when he overtook Lion Hart and pulled away to Win by 3 lengths. Lion Hart held on to Place and Imperialism came from way back to Show.
A $5 million bonus went to the owner of Smarty Jones... the first unbeaten horse to win the Kentucky Derby since Seattle Slew.
The $2 Trifecta paid $987.60... I wasn't even close ;-)
On a side note... I sure hope those sponsors paying for the billboards on the jockeys pants didn't pay a whole lot. The only one I could read was Louisville Slugger and it got less than 2 seconds of air time.
