So the rumor is now official. Davis replaces Treloar with Donnie Marsh from Florida International.
Davis fills IU coaching vacancy - Indy Star
Good for Davis... its about time... However, the following concerns me a little bit. I quote from the article:
"Donnie Marsh is leaving his post as head coach at Florida International to join the Indiana University basketball staff, IU coach Mike Davis announced today. "
The above would lead me to believe that Donnie Marsh resigned his head coaching position at FIU. But this Press Release from FIU seems to contradict that:
FIU Men’s Basketball Coach Donnie Marsh relieved of coaching duties - FIU Press Release - Tuesday, March 3, 2004
Let me quote from this press release:
"Marsh coached the Golden Panthers for the last four seasons. His team finished the 2003-04 campaign with a 5-22 mark and his overall record at the University was 31-84."
Now why in the world would the Star leave this tidbit of information out? Hmmm... he was fired for a pretty pathetic record. Just the kind of experience IU needs in their coaching staff.
Earlier in the summer Davis added Kerry Rupp to the staff. Granted he came from Utah and was an assistant for 3 years under Rick Marjerus, but prior to that, his only experience was High School.
Kerry Rupp Bio
The Davis contingent keep telling us that Davis really upgraded his staff this year... I just don't see it. Oh well, we'll see on the court soon enough.
