Now with his butt on the line, he is not only complaining about the schedule but asking the new athletic director for an easier schedule in the future.
Kravitz Article - Indy Star
The Hoosiers are one of just three teams playing five of the preseason top 10.
This is nothing new for Davis, whose IU teams have played schedules that ranked, in order, fifth, first, 44th, 36th and now first again in terms of difficulty. That won't be the case in the future, though. Not if Davis has anything to say about it.
"Rick really understands scheduling," Davis said. "I don't want to play a cupcake schedule. Don't get me wrong. I don't want to go 12-0 in preconference. But I don't see the benefit in playing a schedule like this, especially with a young team like this. I'd rather play one tough team, then have two games we should win, or one tough game, and three we should win."
Excuses, Excuses, Excuses! Plain and simple. Young??? Tapak - Senior, Johnson - Senior, Bracey - Junior, Marshall - Junior. You have senior leadership... mixed with young talent. You cannot use the "we are young" excuse every year.
What???? You don't want to go 12-0 in preconference??? Note to Mike... you do that and you might have a better chance of keeping your job.

Indiana State - average MVC team that IU should never lose to.
Western Illinois - cupcake... picked to finish behind IUPUI and Valpo in their conference
UNC - tough team at home, but part of the ACC-Challenge, it could have been Duke
UCONN - tough team on the road
Notre Dame - we play them every year - this year at home
Kentucky - we play them every year
Missouri - in the past, this would be considered a tough game... this year, Missouri is decimated due to recruiting violations and penalties
Charlotte - Home game against a mid level team we have played a lot recently
Ball State - average MAC team that IU should never lose to.
Oral Roberts - Cupcake
Furman - Cupcake
And in the very weak B10, this year, we only play Illinois, Michigan State, Iowa and Penn State once. Talk about a favorable B10 schedule... the top 2 teams we only play once.
I don't want to hear any more about IU having a tough schedule... this is an average schedule at best!
