Hell!
I'm driving home from work listening to the Drive on WNDE here in Indy and Bill Benner is JMV's guest. For the first time EVER, I agreed with Bill on something.
He was commenting on everyone being so down on the Colts over one bad game against a very good Patriots team. Bill made the following comment. "The Journey should be more important than the Destination!" Just because Peyton and the Colts finished the season with a bad game, that should not demean the accomplishments of the entire season. AMEN!
I have always felt that everyone today is so caught up with winning, that the importance of the game itself is lost. I look at what happened with High School Class basketball as a perfect example of this. The school administrators were so enamored with getting a trophy and making sure that the little guy could feel good with a win, that they missed the whole concept of the Journey through the state tournament. A small school beating a big school for a Sectional Championship made for a tremendous journey... even more so than a State Championship today in which that same school dominates a bunch of small schools, but is never able to test themselves against a big school.
I must be getting old if I'm starting to agree with Bill Benner. But on this issue, Bill, you hit the nail on the head. Thanks!
