Apathy!

While there are definitely 2 loud factions on Peegs.com... "Davis Lovers" and "Davis Haters" they are called... it seems the students just don't care any more. And that is WORSE!

apathy - ap·a·thy - n.
  1. Lack of interest or concern, especially regarding matters of general importance or appeal; indifference.
  2. Lack of emotion or feeling; impassiveness.
  3. IU Students and the IU Basketball program in 2005
At the tip yesterday, there we're maybe 50 students in the lower 3 sections and no one in the balconies.

Half way through the first half, the lower student sections were half full with the balconies a third full.

At the half, the lower student sections were 2 thirds full and the balconies were half full at the most.

I've never seen Assembly hall this empty for a B10 game. I sure hope that Greenspan is paying attention.

Guess what? IU's found one way to spark enthusiasm in the team. I saw a sign in the IU Bookstore today, and they're offering 3% off on game days for each 3-pointer we make (maximum 39%).

I think it's great that we highlight such an underutilized part of our offense. I'm sure that the team needs some incentive to take a few daring shots, right? [/sarcasm]

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please say it isn't so!!!

When I was a student down there, McDonalds ran a promotion where you could get a free cheeseburger, fries and drink if IU held the opponents under 50 points.

There was nothing better than a 79-48 game with 30 seconds left and the entire crowd is chanting DEFENSE!!! The opposing teams were just dumbfounded.

On the plus side, there is a party running for IUSA under the name "What about Bobby?" They were going to call it "Mike Davis - You're Fired!", but the administration wouldn't let them. And, there is at least one other IUSA party whose goal is to improve the basketball situation and student participation. (I never thought I'd hear of proposals to give season ticket holders T-shirts for their trouble...)

Of course, I'm sure there are more important things they could focus on, but whatever. Check it out in the Letters to the Editor in the 2/15/05 IDS.
