A thank you to Big Red Fanatic on Peegs.com for the following stats:
Scoring 175th
Assists 156th
Rebounding 115th
Steals 257th
FG% 233rd
3-pt FG% 160th
These shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. This is the sign of a very poorly designed offense that will not work against solid college teams. The space yourself on the perimeter, dribble around, pass without a purpose and chuck the 3 offense does not work. Period! 4 Guards and DJ White provides a little more inside - outside offense, but not as much as 3 guards and 2 inside guys would provide.
While many have praised IU's defense for holding other teams to below their season average, the offense plays a major role in that. Using 30 seconds of the shot clock every possession and trying to contain the opposing team's offense forcing them to use the shot clock as well, shortens the game and will keep the scores down. Without any steals, you end up with zero easy buckets, which leads to a poorer FG% and lower scoring average.
These are not the stats of a young "rebuilding" team. These are the signs of an offense with serious problems that older players will not resolve.
Davis must go!
