Okay... the peanut gallery has asked and I shall respond.
The Breaded Tenderloin... an Indiana staple... pounded pigs butt... ah... mouth watering...
Being born and raised in N. Manchester, home of Mr. Dave's World Famous Breaded Tenderloin, I've been eating the best since I was 3. I have tried hundreds of breaded tenderloins throughout the state of Indiana and the absolute best tenderloin still comes from Mr. Dave's in N. Manchester.
So where are some of the other best Tenderloins in the state? I'm always open for a road trip to try a good Tenderloin.

Dude, if you've been eating these things since you were three I'd bet that you are a little on the overweight side. Guess: 5'8" 200lbs.
I don't have a favorite place since I have never eaten one. There has to be an internet supplier so that I can get one sent to me. Any history behind the tenderloin? Why is it an Indiana thing?

I remember moving to Indy in '93 and taking a hiking trip with some friends down to Muskatuck Wildlife Refuge in southern Indiana in the spring of that year. We hiked around in the height of allergy season. Never have I sneezed so much. At times I could not open my eyes and my sneezing surpassed its legendary volume and force. On the way back we stopped at a Mug and Bun on the westside of Indy and I stopped sneezing long enough to enjoy a tasty tenderloin sandwich and root beer. It was the best tenderloin I ever had. Afterwards, I got to my apartment took 3 actifeds and fell into a blissful sleep.
!end of story!
the biscuit.
"John's Awful Big, Awful Good" Restaurant in Hartford city used to have excellent tenderloin, but the knocked it down to make way for a new huspital or something. Now, for my money, the place is Barringers, on South Meridian in Indianapolis.
Anonymous got it right! Steve really is about 5' 8" and 200 pounds!
Actually 5'10" 190... thanks!
Mr. Daves in N.Manchester ships via Fed-Ex... do a google search and order up some of the best.
I live 3 blocks from Mug and Bun... best Drive-In in Indiana. Rootbeer made on the premises... to die for.
Been to Barringer's... yes a very good Tenderloin.
Indy Men's Magazine has an article on the Tenderloin this month. I need to find one.

Back in the days of Bobby Knight, everytime the Hoosiers would come to town. Coach Knight would eat at a place called The Lark. Everytime he would order the same thing. A pork tenderloin... I must say they are quite tasty. If your ever in Iowa City. Stop by the The Lark and try one. I don't think you will be sorry.

Thanks IU-Fan-in-IA. I've been to Iowa City once, but didn't make it to the Lark. Next time I am there I will definitely find it.
I've heard great things about both Mug N Bun and Dave's. I'll get my dad to drive over to North Manchester next time I'm home.
I barely ever eat tenderloins, but my family's belief is that the best ones usually come impromptu - at a Kiwanis Club booth at the county fair, for instance.
I'd like to try the tenderloin at the State Fair's Pork Tent (which is the funniest name ever for an eating venue). One year, Bob and Woody and I went there while at the fair, and we were served corn dogs by a woman named Meg Ryan. Woody was very happy.
I'll just be careful not to view the World's Largest Hog before eating, or else I might connect it to the tenderloin. Yuck!
Pounded Pigs Butt... YUMMY!
I think we might need an IU group get together at Mug N Bun this summer.
i did a documentary on the breaded tenderloin for my thesis film at film school. did preliminary research beforehand by contacting restaurant owners and food critics around the state, then spent a week driving around to all these places. i ate 23 of them while i was back in indiana.
so, there is no better authority on the subject than i, and i hereby declare that the best loin is indeed mr. dave's in north manchester (not obscenely big like a typical hoosier loin, and priced accordingly, but oh so tasty!).
close seconds include: sleepy owl and the frog in syracuse, indiana, sloane's in peru, barbee inn in warsaw, tack 'n snack (marathon gas station) in gnaw bone, indiana, c. ray's in west lafayette, kooler keg in lafayette, and generally any summer county fair in the state.
hope this helps. you'll be doing yourself a favor to try any of these delicious loins!
