IRL Turns Right

So a new chapter in the IRL began on Sunday. The Indy Cars hit the streets of St. Pete. The last 2 years I have been to Al Lang field during spring training and both times I walked part of the layout of the track. It's a gorgeous area and I can see where it would make for a nice event. Everything is packed pretty close together and the airport provides some good sightlines.

Personally I am not a fan of street parades. But as far as street parades go, this was a pretty good one. Scheckter made an awesome pass on Sam on the first lap. Kanaan showed that he could punt 2/3rds of the Target cars without damaging his car. Mr. Judd likewise nailed Sharp knocking Scott out while Dario Judd kept on going.

With Ken Green promoting the event and Honda being the lead sponsor, is there any question who would dominate? Andretti Green Racing finished 1-4. I just hope the IRL isn't becoming a WWE like NASCAR.

My favorite moment though was the Helio interview after he tangled with Anthony. Most drivers would have been ticked off. Instead Helio took most of the blame himself. He said he had talked with Anthony before the race and Anthony had said he would get out of the way if the leaders were coming up on him and that he was out of the way, but Helio tried to pass in a corner and he shouldn't have. As classy an interview as I have ever seen. Go Helio!

Oh come on, you don't think the fact that Green promoted the race rigged it in favor of his team do you?
Helio was much more the man and professional than that old fart A.J.
