Celebration, anticipation for upcoming season - Indystar.com
Typical media. Though the Davis Shill Jeff Rabjohns did throw an intriguing quote into this piece...
"I think they've got loads of talent," said former trustee Fred Eichhorn, who turns 75 Sunday. "If they can meld together into a team, they're going to be sensational."Leave it to Rabjohns to find the key trustee behind the Knight firing to get a quote. 'sensational' Wow! Good thing he got Knight out because Knight's teams couldn't be 'sensational'.
Davis continued spewing...
At least Davis has been consistent and confident every preseason talking about how good his team is going to be. I must say I am so glad for him that he finally has been able to restock the bare cupboard that Knight left him. I mean they have never had 9 or 10 guys that can start."We have a good team," Davis said. "When you look at this group, you see a basketball team. Every year, you want to win the conference. You want to play for a national championship."Realistically, this is a team I think can compete at that level. We're deep. We have nine or 10 guys that can start, and we've never had that."
So with all that "Talent" Davis better get off to a hot start this year and get his contract extension. Because next year sure will be a different story with Killingsworth, Monroe, Kline, Strickland all finishing their eligibility and if you listen to the Davis supporters, White, Allen and Dinc are all going to jump to the NBA because they are that good. With no recruits for next year... that cupboard will be VERY bare. But that's okay cause Davis will have his contract extension and he's already told us that expectations should match the players. There's your excuse for the next 4 years.
And anybody see anything wrong with this quote:
"I'm real excited for the season," said Roger Gass, 24, who drove from Newburgh, Ind., for the opening practice. "They've got some good recruits coming in.That would make dad 10 when he had his son. Now granted we are talking about Southern Indiana, so I guess that could be true.
"I've been a fan ever since I was the boy's age," he said, pointing to his 14-year-old son, David.
Hoosier Hysteria a Hit - IUHOOSIERS.com
Interesting that they estimated the crowd at 13,500. From first hand observers, the lower levels were 3/4 full and no one was in the balcony. Since Assembly hall holds 17,300 and each balcony has 2,500 seats... their estimate is a bit off. But then again IU also has told us that attendence didn't drop off the last 5 years. Yeah right!
