Ahh the joys of a DVR... I was able to record all the Indy stations for their coverage.
WISH8 at 10pm sent Chris Whitlick and he interviewed Kerry Rupp 30 seconds. He thanked the crowd for coming out and talked briefly about Killingsworth and Monroe needing to be the leaders of the team this year. Sadly they didn't show any coverage of the event and didn't even pan up to show the new scoreboard.
Fox59 at 10pm showed the scoreboard. Wow... it's huge. I'll look forward to hearing first hand reports. They had a live spot at 10:45 and Assembly Hall was empty. Guess the 3-pt contest and dunk contest didn't last long. Jeremiah Johnson showed video of the warmups, and the brief scrimmage and then interviewed Donnie Marsh. He talked about liking the speed and athleticism of the team and that they just needed to put the pieces together. Decent Interview.
WRTV6 at 11pm Will Hampton showed the Slam Dunk contest highlights and talked with AJ Ratliff. Talked about his dunk, talked about the team being deep. Then they cut to a very brief quote from Davis... "Chemistry is great. Its the best its been since I've been around and that is important." I didn't realize Davis was taking a Chemistry class? Glad it is going great! Channel 6 didn't show the scoreboard.
WTHR13 at 11pm Rich Nye was in Bloomington. He talked about the new scoreboard, but they never showed it. They showed a Killingsworth layup and an AJ Ratliff dunk and signed off. Sad coverage.
WISH8 at 11pm Chris Whitlick interviewed Slam Dunk Champ AJ Ratliff. He mentioned Marco and Lewis as being keys to this year's team and just getting better every day in Practice. AJ came off as a well spoken player.
If Kit Klinglehoffer is smart, tonight should be a precursor to the rest of the season. Have the assistants and players talk to the media instead of Davis. I'm sure Davis spoke to Terry Hutchens and there will be some great quotes in the Star tomorrow. I'll be sure to Zapruderize them... thanks Joel... that made me laugh earlier today.
I must say that in the past I've been excited about the beginning of the College Basketball season come midnight madness. This year... I didn't even bother to turn on ESPN2 which was covering UK, KU, Memphis and . Instead I just feel like I'm just waiting to watch an trainwreck. Which I will be covering here on my blog when it happens.

local news.. local snooze
were it not for triple inverted back-flip 4th dimensional Weather Radar and Sports scores the whole operation would probably be shut down and replaced with "Friends" and "Seinfeld" re-runs.
I remember my 8th grade Journalism teacher taught me the 3 major components of a TV News report: "(1) Tell 'em,(2) tell 'em that you told 'em and (3) then tell 'em again."
Thankfully the Internet has arrived and the minute a major story breaks I abandon the TV and race down to my computer and start reading up on it.
Content is King and local TV just doesn't cut it.
