So driving in to work this morning I had my Radio on ESPN 950 here in Indy listening to Mike and Mike. Dick Vitale had his normal Monday morning call but he said something I found very interesting...
He mentioned that since he had called for IU to bury the hatchet with Coach Knight and name Assembly Hall, Knight Hall in honor of all Coach Knight did for IU during the Duke broadcast, that several representatives from IU had called him and chastised him for mentioning that during the IU game. The best part though was that Dick called them all "petty" and renewed his wishes.
Now why would the administration at IU go to those lengths to try to distance themselves from a Coach that brought them 3 National Championship Banners and Millions of Dollars for the University? Oh that's right, they are stuck with Mike Davis... any comparison to the Hall of Fame coach just reiterates the joke of a coach that is currently at IU. Shame on you IU!

I agree with the administration on this one. I was yelling at Vitale to shut up while watching the game. Enough with his man-crush on Knight. He was supposed to be broadcasting a game between Duke and IU, not preaching to the masses.
Should the court be named after Knight? It's not a bad idea. He did alot for the program and should be recognized. He certainly deserves it.
Unfortunately, none of the sides want to reconcile. And until that happens, there will be no honor for Knight.
But Vitale was out of line. He's a broadcaster. Let him preach on his web site. His job is to comment on the game at hand and not use a national stage to politicize his views.
At this rate, Vitale will devolve into another Billy Packer.
Either way, Herman B Wells mandated as chairman of the university naming committee that no building could be named for a person until five years after his death. That's why it wasn't until this year that the library was named after him. If Herman could wait, Bobby certainly can too.
When did John Mellencamp die?
Five years or five million dollars, whichever comes first :)
LOL!
(By the way - my love for Mellencamp's music died right around Human Wheels, or maybe Dance Naked. Does that count?)
