IU - Illinois Post Game

Random Thoughts while watching the IU game tonight...

I wonder what the Defensive Goal was tonight? 55 pts? 65 pts? 70 pts? 75 pts?

Interesting decision to start Allen with Killer... who comes in off the bench to give Marco a rest?

I guess Wilmont answers that question 1 minute in. Marco looked like he was about to pass out... a little too hyped for the game maybe? err a twisted ankle per Dickie V... err back spasms according to Erin.

Glad to see it was make a bad pass and chuck a 3 night early in Assembly Hall.

IU's offense is pretty simple to defend if you take away Marco inside and defend the 3 pt line. 3 pts in 9 minutes... nice.

It was Peyton's fault IU played so poorly early.

Dukie V's constant promotion of Duke makes me sick!

All of IU's 12 pts in the first 14 minutes of the game came on 3 pt shots... 4 for 10.

Ben Allen was totally lost out there on defense... maybe some playing time earlier in the season might have been helpful. At least he can shoot from 3.

Thanks ESPN for showing us the 1989 loss at the buzzer... always nice to relive that pain!

Nice intentional elbow to the throat Marco. Very Classy! Although it was a nice touch that Davis left him in the game and applauded the action. Too bad the NCAA can't suspend players like the NBA can. Kobe got 2 games for the same thing.

What is with ESPN picking out Mr. and Mrs. Fox from the crowd calling them the biggest IU fans? Who are these people??? Does their kid work for ESPN?

Nice Follow-up there Marco... throwing the ball at Pruitt after making an inside bucket. DISGUSTING!!!! Then Marco follows that up by throwing up a 3... and a bad miss!

Too bad Marco's antics ruined a nice 24-5 run to give IU a 27-19 lead.

28-24 at the half. IU died by the 3 early, then were revived by the 3 late.

At the half Erin Andrews interviewed Davis and asked him what he will say to Marco since the Officials have already had words for Marco's antics. Davis said "Well Marco is an enforcer. We want Marco to play with intensity and emotion all the time." Hmm... interesting... bad choice of words there Mike... John Chaney nearly lost his job for talking about using an "enforcer."

A quick trip to Peegs at the Half found Dozens of people defending Marco's actions. I guess that answers my question as to what IU Basketball has become. Win at all costs baby!!!

What adjustments will IU make at the half... I can't wait.

Good job Mike... IU came out going inside for 3 easy buckets as Pruitt with 3 fouls and Augustine with 2 didn't want t0 pick up early fouls like they did in the first half. Thank you. I'd much rather see that than this chuck a dozen 3's a half offense.

Wilmont had a great game until Monroe fell into the back of his leg... OUCH... Fortunately his foot gave, or that could have been really ugly. Before the injury he was all over the place the first 2 minutes of the second half including scoring 4 of the first IU 6 pts of the half, a blocked shot and a steal.

IU jumped out to an 11 pt lead early in the 2nd half thanks to Wilmont and Enforcer.

How long are Davis' fingernails??? Wow!

Wilmont made it back in at the 12 minute mark... and immediately hit a 3pt shot for his 17th point. Without Wilmont going off... IU doesn't win that game tonight.

Vitale commented about IU having 3 head coaches on the IU bench. Rupp, Marsh, Green make 3... where does that leave Davis? Vitale said it... I'm just asking?

Man I hate the wave... why does IU do it DURING the game?

Vaden laid one BRUTAL screen... well done!

Marco scored a bunch in the second half... but he also continued to play matador defense... Pruitt had a career high 17 pts on 7-8 shooting.

Monroe and Calloway did a great job of containing Dee Brown.

Why does IU go zone from time to time? With IU up 55-42 - 7:39 left, IU came out of the 8 minute TV timeout in a zone and Illinois got 3 easy buckets inside... less than 3 minutes later the score was 55-52 4:52

Why does IU always match down, but not up? During Illinois' run, IU went small and Illinois went big 6'10, 6'10 and 6'9. They proceeded to destroy IU inside going on an 18-3 run.

At least Killer made 3-4 from the line down the stretch and Vaden made 1 of 2 and IU survived a half court shot for the 62-60 win.

Why is it that students rush the court after any win these days? To get on Sportscenter? Thanks ESPN!

IU rebounded much better tonight... Wilmont made all the difference getting 25% of IU's rebounds.

Why does Mike Davis thank God after a win, but not after a loss? Again... I'm just asking?

IU 62 - Ill 60 IU goes to 3-1 in the B10 and 11-3 Overall.

Marco is a thug plain and simple. What bothered me most was Wilmont being the absolute star of the game, yet getting no credit for it. Sportscenter only showed highlights of the thug scoring and celebrating, Channel 8 in Indy showed highlights of the thug celebrating after a basket, ESPN.com had a picture of the thug celebrating with the students after the game, ESPN Radio this morning talked about the thug scoring 17 second half points to lead IU to the win, and AM1260 in Indy talked about the thug and how awesome he was last night. HELLO??? Does anyone watch the game anymore? Wilmont is the only reason IU won that game. It sure wasn't Davis' brilliant coaching.

I agree that Marco's behavior was not up to the standards of IU. I do have to point out that he did go for 23 and 12. So, I don't think Wilmont's play was the only reason for the win. Although, it was huge and replaced the usual 16 pts. Vaden gets a game.

Yeah, we've never had guys throw elbows, or even bite people for that matter, in the past. Was that the "IU standard"?

How did Texas Tech do against Texas? Just asking...

I don't know Ann... that "bite" you refer to came under Davis' watch.

Tech lost at Texas last night. Thanks for asking.
