IU - Purdue Postgame

Random Thoughts on today's Rivalry Game...

Think Wisconsin is kicking itself now for playing the Fighting Bisons of North Dakota State during the middle of the B10 season... a 62-55 loss at home in a meaningless game has to hurt. Although I love ESPN making a big deal about the loss and how it allows the rest of the B10 to gain on Wisconsin. Ummm NO. NoDakState wasn't admitted to the B10 as the 12th team.

Does the Enforcer get so excited about the start of the game that he just can't calm down? Seriously... I'm trying to understand why he turns the ball over so much early and nearly hyperventilates a few minutes in and IU has to sit him before the first TV timeout.

Glad to see Wilmont on the floor and not limping... that injury last week could have been so much worse.

Who the heck is this Mike Kelley guy with Wayne Larrivee? He actually said "Jeez" when Vaden hit a tough shot. Wasn't there a Mike Kelley that played at Wisconsin 5-10 years ago?

Hey students... you don't deserve better seats if you can't bother to arrive before the 10 minute mark. The empty seats on both ends and especially the section on the East Main was embarrasing!

4 pts for IU in the first 7 minutes??? These slow starts have got to stop or it will cost IU games later in the season.

The IU... err... Purdue motion offense is fun to watch.

It's too bad the Enforcer can't jump... if he could, he might have a chance at the next level. Not being able to dunk without a running start will be a problem in the NBA.

IU tries a 1-3-1 trap and Purdue breaks it for a Matt Kiefer layup if not for Kline hammering him and sending him to the line. Unfortunately it was Kline's 2nd foul with Allen already having 2 fouls. A 1-3-1 trap leaves your big man vulnerable behind... not smart when you have some foul issues.

Damn Calloway is fast... didn't help him at the line though.

Painter has Purdue playing defense... or is it IU's offense just makes it easy to play defense... defend the Enforcer and the 3 point line... you don't have to worry about dribble penetration.

IU 26 - PU 22 at the half.

Nice FT Shooting from the Enforcer in the first half... 7-7.

I hate ESPN... what was with the 2002 Flashback of Recker hitting the last second shot to beat IU in the B10 Tourney. Thanks ESPN!!! We really wanted to see that again. Idiots!

The announcers stated that IU was the #1 FG % team in the country at 52%. I doubt that is correct... but if it is... College Basketball is DOOMED!!!

The Enforcer??? I think a more appropriate nickname on the defensive end is the Matador. Kiefer, Ware and White scored at will once they got the ball inside.

If you ever want any extra enjoyment while watching IU on TV, be sure to visit the Peegs Game Day Forum at www.peegs.com. Every other post is about how IU gets screwed by the officials at home. Hello!!! A team that plays 4 perimeter players shooting 3s, with no dribble penetration will not draw fouls. The only fouls that will occur will happen as teams don't let the Matador score easy buckets inside.

Finally with 11 minutes left IU goes on an 8-0 run for an 11 pt lead with 8:30 left.

How does Kiefer's 2 handed slam go all the way through the rim, yet get hung up in the net and tossed back out? Really strange thing though... didn't that exact same thing happen to him last year in Assembly Hall?

This team just doesn't value a possession. Up 11 and then everyone decides they need to get their points. Wilmont an awful shot, Vaden a bad shot, Strickland a bad shot, Killingsworth turnover... 4 pt IU lead.

Nice to continue to see the Enforcer continue to argue with the officials.

Wonderful to see Kline get some playing time and get a key block that led to a Wilmont 3 to stretch the lead back out. Then draw an offensive foul on Ware and another on Dillon. In 3 minutes, Kline did more on the Defensive end than the Matador.

Marcus White had a Career High in points... 19... anyone seeing a trend here? Thank you Matador... your 18 were offset.

IU 62 - Purdue 49

Going to Mackey late in the year could be a problem.

That was an ugly game. IU sure has a tendency to play down or up to their competition.

I was asking myself the same thing about Killer. He either gets so nervous at the start of a game, or too excited. I don't know what it is, but you think he might be better off coming off the bench at the first TV timeout.

And I think Mike Kelly did play at Wisconsin.

STEVE:

The announcers identified I.U.'s style of basketball at the 7:00 minute mark of the second half. They are playing "a motion offense."

Please explain what "motion offense" I.U. played in the second half? I must have taken a nap somewhere and missed it.

OMG... I thought I heard that... but I convinced myself that they were talking about Purdue's motion offense. No wonder I am confused... even the announcers don't know what IU is doing.

Steve:

When will Marco put up a triple-double? He had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 turnovers. Not bad! He IS getting very close. Maybe the Iowa game on Tuesday.

That would be a painful triple-double. Marco certainly is flirting with double figure turnovers night in and night out. Not a good category there.
