"We went to him a couple of times; they did a good job of doubling and making him pass quick. We panicked a little bit instead of going into him every single time, which I thought we should have done." - Mike Davis
"I wouldn't say my teammates forgot about me. That's how we were doing things at that time." - DJ White
Hmmm... a bit of a contradiction between coach and player? Mike thought they should have gone inside to DJ every single time, yet DJ claims that wasn't the game plan to start the second half. Hmmm...
“Minnesota played great (defense). Especially down low which hurt us because we went down low to D.J. all night. They did a great job doubling him. D.J. has a chance to be a very good ball player. He’s a young boy but a talented ball player. Overall, at times, I thought we panicked and forced it to him.” - Mike Davis
What???? Panicked and forced it to DJ White???? Are you kidding me???? Davis Panicked with 40 seconds left and drew up a play for Bracey to force a 3 pointer when they should have gone inside to DJ. And they went down low to DJ all night???? Not in the first 10 minutes of the second half during the drought or in the last 40 seconds of the game. This above quote came from the post game press conference while his other Panicked quote which contradicts this one came from the IU Radio post game press conference. Seems Mike is a bit confused.
“It’s a road game. It’s not the end of the world. I think people get caught up in every Big Ten game being a do-or-die game. You aren’t going to win every road game in the Big Ten. I’m not focused on us going into Iowa and if we lose, the season’s over. Because, guess what, it’s a road game. You are going to lose road games in the Big Ten. My goal is to win three or four road games. That would be huge.” - Mike Davis
I'm glad Mike realizes that it is just a game... you win or you lose, but no one dies. If you lose enough, you lose your job. Winning 3 or 4 road games won't be enough for Mike to keep his job. But that's okay, cause it's just a game and he's made more money in the last 5 years than I will make in my Career.
“This is a completely different team from last year’s. Bracey is playing really well and I think D.J. can be outstanding and we need to get him going every game. Pat is becoming a good ball player. He plays with a lot of energy and that’s what we need him to do.” - Mike Davis
Yes it is a completely different team. DJ should be the go to guy. He was going against Minny, but it was more important to get Bracey going in the 2nd half... and that cost Mike a win.
“We’ve just got to go back into practice and get a focus.” White said.
I think DJ just summed it up the best. What is going to be this team's focus? Outside shooting through Bracey, or and inside game through DJ? We'll see Saturday.

I don't know if you heard it or not, but JMV had DJ White on as a guest Thursday afternoon. DJ was a pretty good interview for such a young man. The one thing that almost shocked me was DJ referred to himself as a "role player." I got the impression he has confidence, but I don't think he realizes how good he is and how special he could become. After hearing that interview I'm not sure DJ is ready to become the go-to guy. You know I'm not trying to defend Davis, it just gave me a little different perspective. The interview really convinced me that the coaching staff needs to convince DJ that he's the player we all see.

I got in the car right after the interview ended. Interesting that he thinks he is a role player. Is that because the coaching staff is so intent on having Bracey be "The Man" that they have convinced him that he is a role player? That is why I think a new coaching staff coming in could turn DJ into a monster. If Davis is still around, he will focus on Bracey next year and it will be more of the same.
Come on Mike... You are a Davis Defender... admit it... is it because you share first names? ;-)
Are you trying to tell me we have to put up with Bracey again next year?

With a new coach... I could put up with Bracey. He wouldn't be option #1. He would be a team player or he would be sitting on the bench!
I just think this is Bracey's final season. I don't believe he'll stay even if MD(that's what we apologist call him) doesn't get the boot. I've seen more heart out of Bracey this season and I really wouldn't mind if he stayed for his senior year, it's just not going to happen. I don't think Bracey came to IU to win championships or earn a degree, I think he came to showcase his talent for the NBA. I feel what's most unfortunate is he's making a mistake believing he has a future in the NBA. 3-13 shooting doesn't scream contract extension.
